On the historic Buitenverwachting wine estate in Constantia beyond offers so much more than vineyard views. The restaurant decor is modern and contemporary; the cuisine is elevated simplicity with an impressive swathe of sophistication.

In addition to strong support of local suppliers, premium produce is proudly displayed on every plate. But it’s more than that, here there is unrivalled respect for the ingredient, so much so that there is a drive to discover unknown, heritage fare that dates back centuries. Globally lauded chef Peter Tempelhoff cemented this restaurant as one to watch, and his head chef Sebastian Stehr exudes equal exploratory flair. Every dish on the menu has a story and meaning. The chef team are delving back into history to discover foraged ingredients that are not only delicious, but also nutritious.

Close your eyes as your beautifully plated dish is served, open them and you will immediately know what season we’re in. Choose from the enticing a la carte menu, or indulge in the beyond tasting experience for dinner, with wine pairing. Mains dishes continue to represent authenticity. You can supplement your beef main course with Ken Forresters’ free-range, natural Wagyu beef, exclusive to beyond and FYN. Don’t leave before dessert…all are delectable.

Here is a setting, restaurant and cuisine that is unpretentious, uncontrived but always beyond
expectations. The wine offering, not confined to the estate, shows the true talent of Jennifer
Hugé, whose immense knowledge and disarming service is exemplary, making the gastronomic odyssey an informative one too.

    I can’t say I was blown away , I thought it was actually rather dismal . No one to meet and greet at the door ; strike one. Staff took ages to find menus , cocktails took forever to arrive , the bottle Of Raats wine must have been in the furthest SE corner of the cellar ; so strike two. You get charged for the bread (when did this start happening ?) and my sirloin that I ordered medium rare arrived medium and was rather tough. And finally when the bill arrived we had been charged for 4 cocktails instead of three. So strike three . It’s a no from me.

    Great experience and not for the first time! Yesterday was my 3rd visit, and I‘m just equally enthusiastic about Beyond!

    We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Beyond and it was an amazing experience. Everything was exceptional and the wagyu steak was honestly the best steak we have ever eaten.
