Excellent food and the sweetest waitress. Top 3 places to visit in Cape Town.

Really enjoyed the food, especially the small plates! My first time having ramen, was good. Awesome vibe for a date night, or even with a group of friends.

When we arrived a black waitress with braids welcomed us with an attitude. She already undermined us I assume because we were black. Eventually gave us menus and NEVER CAME back. I had asked for a warm glass of hot water with lemon when she gave us the menus. She didn’t do that. We waited for 30-45 minutes to finally be serviced and this is because the other waiters only noticed we hadn’t been served while customers next to us were paying their bill and only when the customers notified the white male waiter did we get served. I’m appalled by the misjudgement of the black waiter because she did the same thing to all other black customers they arrived after us. Her focus was white customers which I think she thought if she focused there, that’s where she’ll cash in more tips. Sometimes the old saying of “don’t judge a book by its cover” plays such an important role here. As this black waitress doesn’t know what she missed. This leaves me with mixed emotions of the place. I hope something gets done to correct her attitude and better the comfort of ALL customers to dine here. I definitely never want to see her or be served by her again should my partner and I go back. I hope she’s shown this review and made to understand that my partner order plain tap warm water was because she had flu and first wanted to drink that before anything. Not because we couldn’t afford to buy drinks. We eventually bought drinks throughout the night so she definitely judged a “book” by its cover. So disappointing in 2026!

Bodega Ramen responded on Thu 14 May 26:
Hi Lelethu, we did email you privately but I thought I should also respond here. Lesego was not your waitress, she was working in another section. As you arrived an hour late, your table had been given away and Lesego kindly made a plan for you in another waiter's section. We were in the peak of service, and Lesego had a full section and unfortunately forgot to let your waiter know about your hot water. I can honestly say it wasn’t a thing about colour, but just a busy service where a number of tables ran late and came in at the same time. We are going to re-examine our late coming policy and re-up our training when seating guests to let them know who is looking after them and to better communicate during pinch points in service. I’m really sorry you were made to feel this way, Lesego has been with us for six years and it is not in her nature, nor in the Bodega culture to judge people on colour. In solidarity, Jade

Absolutely loved the food and the service! Just wished the lighting was a bit better because I went at night. I'm not really a fan of eating in very dim lighting.
