The food was excellent, and exceptional value. Service was friendly and efficient (even able to deal with my sister who can be a little difficult). It was a little loud, but I guess it was 1st Thursday

Good day, We hope you are well. I would like to provide you with feedback from our first at your establishment on the evening of the 1st May (this past Saturday). What was supposed to be a beautiful birthday occasion for my partner turned into the biggest disappointment I have ever experienced at a 5 star establishment to date. Having worked at such establishments in hospitality industry in the earlier forms of my career myself, to now enjoying being hosted brings about much joy, but my experience at The Cowboys and Cooks De Waterkant has been the worst. To summaries, here below are the crucial pointers that made our evening a complete disaster: I had made a booking which I had to change due the many plans of the day I had; upon calling I was told to it was busy but to come in anyway and she (the hostess) will make a plan... Had I known just how busy your team was, I would opted to go elsewhere. Upon arrival your hostess was noticeably spinning. We stood for almost 30mins at the end without being attended to. When she eventually arrived, she asked that she seat us at the bar in the interim and she will get a table for us. We sat at the bar for the longest time until we ourselves had to look for a table. We found one that had been recently cleared but left unattended and asked one of the waitresses on the floor to assist us with seating. We were then seated at the table with only a change of the table linen, no cutlery in sight, nor salt&pepper no decor either. Nonetheless we proceeded. We were then further ignored and once again my partner had to get up and request to have someone serve us. We placed our orders thereafter with a number of items, the ones we had preferred no longer being available ie beef option for the burger, the actual burger roll for the burger and creme brulee as a dessert option. The excuse we were given that that night was extremely busy and it was also a Public Holiday... this comment I will give my feedback on further to my mail. Thereafter our food arrived before the cutlery, which we then had to request. I then asked for tabasco sauce in which our waiter advised "I do not need it" as the peri-peri livers were already spicy. I feel he could have worded this differently as in "Ma'm I do not advise you add tabasco sauce as this livers are already spicy however I will bring it and you can decide..". Then our mains arrived (with my substitute small Portuguese roll instead of a burger roll). By this time, important to note, we have not been asked whether we would any refreshments with either of these meals. Our waiter then disappeared. We sat with our dirty plates until we had to ask for them to be cleared so we can move on to the last part of this already awful dinner service. We proceeded to order the only dessert option left, vanilla ice-cream. Now I one would this would be the fastest offering as one literally needs to scoop two spoons of ice-cream, put it in a bowl and pour chocolate sauce on top (or offer on the side). Anyway, from the time we placed our dessert order to the time we had to physically get up and fetch our waiter, it took all of 40mins. 40mins to enquire about where I ice-cream was. When we asked our waiter, his response was "you haven't received it?", which further proves that he was paying no attention at all to our table. He went to the kitchen and after a visible altercation with the kitchen staff, he brought us our bowls. By this time, we had had enough. We requested to speak to the manager on duty whom never introduced herself so I cannot even say who we spoke to, visibly uninterested in what we had to say. We gave our brief feedback and left, leaving the desserts on the table. The key takeaways from this, and one that I would urge you to convey to your team, especially if they would like to grow not only the establishment, but themselves within the industry, is to really make every dinner service count. You never know whom you are serving... A large table of white people, and yes, I will put it as bluntly as that, should be no different to a black couple in terms of the level of service you provide, the way in which you conduct yourself. Communication should be neutral and shortcuts should not be taken for small tables or people of colour... To you as the owners; Preparation is key. It was month-end, 1st Saturday of the new month and so it happens, also a Public Holiday. Ordering of sufficient stock should have taken place so you do not run out 4hrs into your service. Bookings are made via DinePlan so you are able to anticipate how many guests are to be expected. If you opt to have vouchers on platforms such as Hyperli/WikiDeals you need to understand that you are now opening yourselves up to a larger audience. One that especially during this economic and post Covid times, are looking for good deals to have fun and enjoy themselves. Anticipate such a large response and once again prepare for it. To conclude my first time experience The Cowboys and Cooks De Waterkant has left me extremely disappointed especially for a birthday dinner occasion and one I wish to never experience again. Do you better next time.
