In December 2004, owner Niel du Bois followed his heart, gave his creative spirit free reins, took the plunge and did what many people only dream about – opening an open air restaurant literally on a beach. Where the best seafood is prepared and enjoyed in Spartan surroundings – just like on the West Coast.

The first De Vette Mossel Beach Seafood Restaurant was born. On an isolated and pristine beach at Groot Brak River near Mossel Bay.

Thanks to the continuous support by our newly found Mossel friends, De Vette Mossel grew and grew. At De Vette Mossel your hosts are local Hermanus residents, Gustave and Charne du Bois. They grew up with De Vette Mossel and love the sea and all it has to offer, as well as hosting guests.

    It was fantastic!. Seafood potjie just needed a bit more flavour, but the bread and mussels...oh my goodness. Winner combination!!!!

    The seafood potjie was not as nice as usual. Too little variety and very mushy with no sauce. Nobody fetching dirty plates etc. Was also something that was done in the past. Other than that everything was so nice

    Fantastic experience. Super relaxed, great food, great idea and fantastic value. Real family atmosphere with all ages enjoying everything from relaxing to playing games to sitting by the fire.
