Gourmet Guide™ Description

At FABER on the Avondale farm in Paarl, Mother Nature leads the way, and chef Dale Stevens perfects what she has produced. While sitting in the diffidently decorated restaurant, the open kitchen and vineyard views may vie for attention, but once your plates arrive, it’s all eyes down.

There’s a six-course tasting menu paired with Avondale biodynamic wines, an á la carte menu, and in winter, a two-course special. The seasons dictate both the wines and the cuisine, with a dedication to producing flavour-filled plates and flawless execution.

The line-caught yellowtail ceviche is elevated with semi-dried citrus, green chilli, spring onions, radish, peanut, grilled squid, and mustard flowers. Popular main dishes include the Kroondal duck, the roasted Karoo lamb rack, or, if you’re fortunate, guinea fowl. There’s plenty to tempt the vegetarian diner, and desserts will create a lasting impression–the brûléed Avondale lemon tart with white chocolate and toasted coconut mousse, roasted pineapple and coconut sorbet
is delicate and masterful.

    Our Sunday lunch at Faber was a wonderful culinary experience. We enjoyed the personal service, the attention to detail with every course and all the little extra treats. It was a memorable Women's Day!

    The food was absolutely amazing. Chef Mathew is truly talented and he is a culinary whiz. Blessing and his front of house staff were the most professional, hospitable and warm people. The guys even put on a dance song and joined us in some dancing as we celebrated my fiance's birthday. The 6 course meal was the best culinary experience we've had. Well done, guys. Keep it up.

From the moment you arrive, it becomes clear that this is not simply about going out for dinner. Every detail, every course, every interaction feels carefully considered and designed to create an experience that you’ll remember long after the final bite. It’s indulgent, it’s extraordinary, and, quite honestly, it’s difficult to put into words, you need to experience it. We usually try always find new places and experiences when planning our date nights, but we are going to make an exception and return to sample the other items on the menu.
