We had a booking for 4.30 pm and had specified which tasting we’d like. Nevertheless, we had to wait 15 minutes, which meant that 10 minutes before 5 pm, it was made abundantly clear to us that they were about to close. Chairs were cleared away, the floor was swept around us, and we were shown the door at 5.05 pm. All in all, a bad experience with an unpleasant atmosphere. If you offer a table at 4.30 pm, you must treat it just like any other. To then have the audacity to ask for a tip was the last straw.

Le Pommier Wine Estate responded on Mon 16 Mar 26:
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your visit left you with an unpleasant impression. According to the reservation we received, the booking was made for normal dining and unfortunately did not specify a particular tasting pairing. As a result, there may have been some confusion when you arrived, which we regret. Our kitchen closes at 17:00, and this information is noted on our booking platforms. That said, a reservation made for 16:30 should still feel welcoming and unhurried, and guests should never feel uncomfortable while finishing their experience. It is certainly not acceptable for chairs to be cleared or floors swept around guests, and this is not the standard we expect from our team. We will be addressing this with the staff involved to ensure better awareness and guest care towards closing time. Additionally, it is not our policy for staff to request tips, and we take this matter seriously. We will be discussing this internally with the team. We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention, as it allows us to correct behaviours that do not reflect the hospitality we aim to provide. Regards Le Pommier Team

A very nice meal & great value. Super escargot & ribs. Not quite so good avocado ritz & Durban curry! Will return as decent food for a good price. Excellent service too.

Le Pommier Wine Estate responded on Mon 16 Mar 26:
Thank you for your lovely review and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the escargot, ribs, and the service from our team, and that you felt the meal offered great value. Your kind words are greatly appreciated. Just to clarify, our curry is prepared as a Cape Malay curry, which traditionally has a slightly different flavour profile to a Durban-style curry. It is generally milder and more aromatic, often with subtle sweetness and warm spices. We understand that if you were expecting a Durban curry, the taste may have been a little different from what you had in mind. We appreciate your honest feedback on the avocado ritz as well, as it helps us continue improving our dishes. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon for another visit. Kind Regards Le Pommier Team

We enjoyed the restaurant very much. Food was very good and reasonable. We had the Banhoek Trio and the Bobotie. But what stood out for us was the service. Our waiter Sam was fantastic. He was very warm and attentive. Highly recommend La Pommier.
