If you're as serious about ramen as we are, you've found the best place in Cape Town to slurp silky freshly-made noodles, sip umami-rich broth simmered and nurtured for days, and socialise with brimful glasses of sake. Having imported the only Yamato noodle machine in Africa, you won’t find anywhere else like it!

Taking our cue from the ramen houses in Japan, not only with the authenticity of our ingredients and the care lavished on the preparation, we are casual, we are edgy, and we have a vibe - day and night, right in the heart of the city. Our low-hydration noodles are freshly made on-site, left for a minimum of two days to mature, and served steaming hot – just the way they should be. Known for our popularity, we limit seating time to two hours per table, ensuring you get the finest bowl of ramen – and so does the next hungry customer too!

Please note, we have outside seating available for walk-ins, which is weather dependent. No reservations are required for lunch.

I had a really disappointing experience at Ramen Head. I arrived before my friend and was approached twice within five minutes by different waiters asking if I wanted water, even after I’d already said I’d wait. It felt a bit disjointed from the start. When my friend arrived, we asked for still water but were initially given sparkling, followed by an unnecessary explanation about the bottle change. Our waiter offered to walk us through the menu, but it ended up being a word-for-word reading of the ramen descriptions, which wasn’t helpful at all. There was a lot of mention of “umami flavour” without any real explanation or guidance. We ordered two small plates and two ramen bowls together. The service continued to miss the mark. The biggest issue was the food timing. The small plates arrived, but after 30 minutes, our ramen still hadn’t come. When we followed up twice, we were told the waiter hadn’t even put the ramen order through yet, as he usually waits 5–10 minutes after starters. This was never communicated to us, and we definitely didn’t ask for staggered service. By that point, we were on a time constraint and already full from the small plates, so we had to cancel the ramen entirely, which was frustrating because that’s what we came for, especially on a rainy day. To make matters worse, there was no apology or acknowledgement of the mistake. Overall, very poor service and a disappointing experience. I wouldn’t rush back.

I have been a regular costumer of Ramenhead for years and absolutely loved the food, the drinks, the service and atmosphere. While the atmosphere is still beautiful and cozy, they changed their menu 3 days ago and the result unfortunately is disappointing. Portions are smaller while they remained the same price. Some of the best dishes left the menu or changed into a worse variation. The sweet desert isn’t a dumpling, but small churro balls covered in matcha. A lot of changes turned an outstanding menu into a cheap, low quality alternative. They also introduced food and drinks specials from 5-7pm, which they were excited to tell us about even though we only arrived around 8. it’s still a good restaurant and worth a visit - I think more though if you don’t know how exceptional it used to be.

We've coming to Ramenhead since it opened. Unfortunately, the past few times we've gone it's started to go downhill. Last night, the service was unreasonably slow: we waited 30 minutes for two of our drink orders, our food orders came two at a time and 5 minutes apart, and we waited 15 minutes for the bill after following up twice. Unfortunately the vibe has also been ruined: what used to be a cozy urban ramen hangout has turned into an ostentatious tourist trap with a bad DJ and a branded bar. While opening the atrium might help with waiting times and allow the restaurant to print more cash, it's clear that the kitchen and bar can't sustain the increased footprint. Such a shame it's gone so downhill, but us locals won't be back.

Service started out really slow - it was happy hour at the time when we arrived. But i had to ask for a menu after waiting a few minutes at the table - then when the host arrived she brought only one drinks menu. I still had to ask twice for a waiter before we could place our order - could not make use of the small plates special as we did not receive food menus until I asked again. Hopefully it was only because of it being a busy time but generally guests should receive a menu when being seated. Really enjoyed our meals , the drinks and the ambiance for sure.

The service was slow and disjointed and although the food was good, the waitress we had was inattentive, seldom seen and forgetful - but she didn't need to bother as the tip automatically goes on the bill.
