Almost two years after opening MERTIA to universal acclaim in Stellenbosch, Marais Kirsten-Uys and Chef Matt van den Berg are bringing a new, very different experience to their hometown. Inspired by nature and the earth, TERRA reimagines the dining experience with a casual, all-day menu – serving breakfast, lunch and dinner – seven days a week.
Just around the corner from MERTIA, TERRA will open its doors in early October, offering the perfect refuge for sout-van-die-aarde, lekker mense. While Chef Matt will oversee the culinary vision for their new, earthy, everyday eatery as Executive Chef, TERRA will be headed up by experienced Chef, Jarryd Morris.

    We've been coming to South Africa for several months at a time for the past nine years and have always eaten very well! But this was the worst dinner we've ever had! Our waiter was the only wonderful thing; he tried to save the evening! One of the nicest waiters ever! Gerhard and Heidi

    It was a very hot day in Stellenbosch but I don’t think the aircons were working, other than that ut was splendid

    What a well run establishment. Kitchen and front of house combine seamlessly to provide a first class culinary experience. Can’t wait to return and enjoy it all over again. This is going to be a staple lunch spot this summer.

    We ordered tapas / small plates. Food really good, but very small selection. We ate there on a Saturday afternoon, 12:30. Granted it was hot, but found the situation close to the road 'traffic-busy'. It's new and the place not at all full, so, with relatively few people to serve, slightly over-eager waitrons. I think I might still try a late afternoon early evening.

    The snacks were exceptional. The West Coast oysters are a "Must Try" as well as the prawn toast and tuna tostada.
