The Cradle Restaurant

Cradle Boutique Hotel is a beautiful venue and the scenery was exactly what I was looking for, if not better. We hosted a group of around 20 people for a relaxed afternoon gathering, and overall the experience was worthwhile. The waiters were friendly, patient and accommodating, particularly considering that our group arrived at different times and became quite lively as the afternoon progressed. The food experience was more mixed. Some dishes were enjoyable, although one of the slow-braised beef dishes lacked the depth and texture I expected and came across closer to boiled than properly slow-braised. For the price and setting, I think there is room for improvement in consistency. The wine selection is good, and being able to bring our own wine with corkage worked well for our group. The biggest opportunity for improvement would be the overall customer engagement and coordination, particularly when dealing with a larger booking. A little more proactive communication would elevate the experience considerably. That said, the location and ambience are exceptional. It is peaceful, scenic and feels removed from Johannesburg despite being relatively accessible. I would definitely return, particularly for the setting and a smaller, more intimate lunch.

The waitress complained about the tip upon paying, saying it’s little as she shares it with others. I found this awkward and uncomfortable as the tip was actually more than 10%. Other than that, the everything else was excellent.
