Vonkel at Simonsig brings fresh, relaxed Mediterranean-inspired dining to one of Stellenbosch’s most historic family wine estates. Open for brunch and lunch, Vonkel is all about excellent ingredients, seasonal produce and food made to enjoy with wine. Start the day with house-baked bagels and playful brunch plates, or settle in for a leisurely lunch of wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, handmade pasta, fresh salads, small plates, sharing boards and generous favourites. Simonsig’s own extra-virgin olive oil appears throughout the menu, alongside carefully sourced local and Italian ingredients. And bubbles are never far away. Vonkel takes its name from Kaapse Vonkel, first made here by Frans Malan in 1971 and recognised as South Africa’s first bottle-fermented sparkling wine. In 2026, Simonsig celebrates 55 years of Cap Classique.
