Arum is the latest restaurant from acclaimed chef Peter Tempelhoff and the award-winning FYN Group.

Set within the iconic Werf building - the estate’s original 1812 cellar - Arum will bring a bold farm-to-fire dining experience to Franschhoek, celebrating Boschendal’s agricultural heritage with local, seasonal ingredients and a vibrant sense of place.

For Chef Peter Tempelhoff, Arum is about alignment - of place, produce, and philosophy. “Boschendal brought all of those elements together,” he says. “As a heritage wine estate and agricultural haven, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up - a chance to create something that reflects Boschendal’s deep connection to the land.”

    We had a lovely evening overall. The location, bar area, décor and ambience are absolutely stunning and create a beautiful setting for a night out. The service was also top notch – attentive, professional and very welcoming. The food, however, was a mixed experience. The duck starter was unfortunately not very tender. The pork dish was the highlight of the evening and was excellent. The lamb and sirloin dishes were average and did not stand out as much as expected, and I did not particularly enjoy the dessert. Considering the price point, the food felt quite expensive relative to the overall quality. I understand that this is a fine dining and exclusive restaurant, but the dishes did not quite deliver the taste experience that would justify the prices. Compared with other fine dining options in the area, there may be room for improvement in terms of flavor and overall taste experience but it was worth a try.

    Our first visit to Arum and it was as good as we had hoped. The smoked duck to start and fillet steaks for main were excellent with attentive service to match. Prices are reasonable for this quality of food and service. We will be back.

    Outstanding food and service. The Octopus starter was wonderfully smokey and delicious. The ribeye steak was possibly the best I have tried anywhere. Not just the quality of the meat but the presentation of the fat which added to the flavour and the mix of chimichuri and sides was the perfect combination. Impeccable but relaxed service plus the fact that you are not obliged to have a tasting menu makes it a wonderful choice in a lovely location. Thank you.
