Arum is the FYN Group's contemporary, fire-focused restaurant on Boschendal Estate in Franschhoek. The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Travis Finch with guidance from chefs Peter Tempelhoff and Ashley Moss. The restaurant occupies the historic Werf building, the estate's original 1812 cellar, and draws from Boschendal's regenerative and biodynamic farming practices, working with seasonal ingredients, whole-animal butchery, and live-fire cooking - bringing a bold farm-to-fire dining experience to the valley.

The beverage programme at Arum draws inspiration from the farm and Boschendal wines. Group Sommelier and Beverage Director Jennifer Hugé collaborated with Boschendal's winemakers on the Arum Special Series, single-variety wines exclusive to the restaurant and available by the glass and bottle.

Arum Bar is a design-forward space, the centrepiece of which is the bar itself - a piece of functional art created by artist Driaan Claassen. Behind the bar Hugé serves up a host of innovative cocktails, with a bar snacks menu which highlights farm-grown ingredients. The perfect setting to move on to after a day in the Winelands, or to begin your evening before dinner.

Arum serves lunch and dinner Monday to Sunday. The bar is open from 12:00 to 22:00 daily.

Solo diners and groups larger than 14 should contact the restaurant directly to arrange reservations.

Tables are held for 15 minutes past the reservation time. Walk-ins are welcome.

Guests are welcome to enjoy the bar without a restaurant reservation. Arum offers corkage.

I made the booking via Dineplan, which is the only way a booking can seemingly be made at Arum. I made special notice that one guest is Vegan (the person who's birthday surprise this booking was for). On arriving for our meal (the winter tasting set menu), there was no vegan option prepared and the chef had to come up with something on the spot. The other diners in our party food was very good, but the vegan got a plate of sliced tomatoes for starter and a single scoop of sorbet for desert. We had two bottles of the Shiraz, which sells for R185 at Boschendal a few meters from Arum, but for some reason you pay R450 per bottle on the farm at one of their restaurants. Our waiter was great, but I would likely not recommend this to place anyone.

Last night’s fine dining experience was honestly incredible. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The space was absolutely beautiful, the staff were warm, professional, and attentive, and the food was exceptional. Every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. You can really see the attention to detail in every part of the experience. Definitely one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a while. Highly recommend.

Arum needs some polishing Excellent communication pre booking fell a long way short on the night meaning there was no plan made for dietary needs-we gave feedback on this and sincerely hope it will be acted upon so that other guests don’t feel second best
