How this restaurant has deteriorated. I was very disappointed in my recent dining experience at Beira Alta (lunch, 4 people). This used to be a great restaurant, always bustling, and an easy pick for a finer dining option at Lifestyle. The bare bones are still in place (perhaps left over from previous management and better days?), but the food, service, and ambience has taken a huge hit. The toilet was also shabby and in need of deep cleaning/renovation. Some of the recipes may be the same as the glory days, but presentation was sloppy (greasy chips thrown haphazardly onto a plate) and quality of ingredients and cooking has taken a deep dive (chicken was dry, shrunken, and overcooked, and then generously doused in sauce as if this would solve everything). Their famous breadrolls turned hard, stretchy, and dry after a few minutes (warmed in the microwave, perhaps?) and the prego steak roll was sitting in a pool of unappetizing sauce, with the steak itself barely visible (so little of it), and an alarming shade of gray. It reminded me of bad minute steaks I remember from the 1980s. But the worst aspect of this depressing experience was the service. I cannot even begin to describe how unprofessional and frustrated all my servers (except for Steven, who only brought out our food) were. In fact, I feel so bad for this whole sorry bunch, including the manager, that I am abandoning my initial intention to complain loudly and angrily, in great detail, in this review. These people don't need any more sadness in their lives.
