    We left because there was no service - eventually the security guard sat us down in a room and made us a fire. Still no one came to serve us, so I found one of the three waitstaff standing by the bar, only to be told we couldn’t sit in that room. They asked us to move to a (completely empty) and freezing dining hall… we asked if we could atleast sit by the fire until the food was ready and were told no. The place was completely empty - not one other guest - and now I see why. This used to be my favourite place to bring overseas guests, so sad that it’s gone downhill so much! Definitely would not recommend or go back.

    We dined at Bella’s on Wednesday 10th April 2024. Wind was very strong so we had to sit inside which is sad as the terrace is lovely. Not much attention has been paid to making the dining room an enticing place to sit. The lighting is extremely harsh, there are no tablecloths on the table, and the napkins are disposable paper ones. It is also very echoey and would benefit from some attempt at acoustic dampening, or even some low volume music to make it seem less like a meeting room. I had the chicken korma which was passable but really not very remarkable in flavor. The naan bread that came with it had been toasted in the oven and was hard and burned at the edges. My partner had the steak which he said was good. Our waitress was kind and attentive. I love animals but it got a bit much to be faced with the hotel dog begging for scraps at our table the whole way through the meal, as cute as he is. All in all not a great experience, and certainly not one befitting such beautiful establishment. I love going to the Retreat, I just wish the food matched.

    Unbeatable view, quiet and lovely ambience. Food is okay definitely could be better. The staff often complain if you want to sit down on the lawn chairs to have drinks, this makes service okay.
