Nestled on the historic Constantia Uitsig Wine Estate, Blockhouse Kitchen is focused on sharing our passion for accessible and seasonal food. It’s about staying true to our belief in simple and classic cooking. Where possible, we aim to use only the freshest produce from sustainable and local South African growers and farmers.

We offer an all-day dining experience, with a strong focus on wholesome and healthy food. We have extensive options for kids - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our kitchen is conscious, using the philosophy of nose to tail, root to leaf. Not only does this have a positive effect on the environment but also allows us to be generous with you in portions and pricing.     On a cold day hot food served on cold plate is cold fast. A very disappointing “ossi buco?” mushroom risotto, fish and chips average, desert small portions. Place was empty but service had to be requested three times. Will not return.

    Expensive for what was served - starters good, main meals very basic - burger looked and tasted like a serving from a school canteen Kitchen was clearly overrun very slow - definitely need more waitrons Pleasant staff though and venue The kicker - validated parking added to bill when it states otherwise on website Not the case with other restaurants within the complex What a disappointment

    We ate from the Winter special menu - even so, with 2 adults and 2 children under 5, no drinks except one glass of wine - our bill came to R625.00 before a tip. The staff were friendly. The crumbed pork chop was overcooked - hard. and served with no veggies. The steak was not seasoned, and served on an empty plate into which the bloody juices ran out. The 'prego' sauce was a solid paste and not a sauce as such. The childrens chicken strips and the chips were good. The tables and chairs and gardens and playground outside need some renovating - its looking tacky and the equipment is rickety and a little dangerous now in some areas for the children. The blankets we used outside needed a wash. Such a pity as it has the perfect location.

    The food was absolutely great, real good, traditional SA food. The mgt & staff were wonderful & friendly & we reallt enjoyed the restaurant’s ambiance!
