The only Beachfront restaurant in Knysna.

Butterfly Blu is perched on a dune top with beautiful panoramic sea views making it one of the most idyllic restaurants in Knysna with beautiful food, an outdoor/indoor deck, lounge areas, cocktail bar, and a contemporary interior. Directly below the restaurant is beautiful stretch of white sandy beach and rolling dunes covered with lush fynbos for which this part of the world is so famous. The setting is perfect to enjoy a rosy sunset after a stroll on the beach.

Our philosophy is simple – to make your visit and dining experience as pleasurable as possible. We are passionate about what we do! With a commitment to sourcing the freshest produce seasonally, our chefs utilise locally-sourced ingredients across all areas of the continually evolving contemporary menu, to deliver a unique dining experience. Everything is made fresh in house under the watchful eye of chefs who have honed their skills for more than 25 years in various inspirational kitchens in Northern Europe. Suppliers are carefully selected based on their beliefs in sourcing/rearing, produce/animals, in a time-honoured natural way, free from chemicals and unnatural additives.

    We dine here often and normally service and food is very good. This time however my dish was over done my wife’s dish was cold and the biggest problem was the Waiter was pathetic took 30 min just to bring us classes for our wine never checked up on us. Never explained the specials or the catch if the day dis not even bring us all the menu options. We had to go and get our own ice when we ran out. Overall terrible service. Quite disappointing as the place was not even that full.

    We had a lovely experience at the Butterfly Blu restaurant. Great friendly staff and very yummy food. Cocktails mixology needs attention though.

    The roast butternut with whipped feta was one of the most delicious salads I have ever had. A range of textures, flavors and temperatures. The prawns were so well seasoned that added butter was unnecessary. Squid was tender and tasty.

    We’ve been to Butterfly Blu several times, and it remains one of our favorite restaurants when visiting the area. On this visit, our party of six shared several sushi starters before moving on to our entrées. Everything was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The only drawback was the service. It was Easter, so the restaurant may have been busier than usual, but we felt a bit overlooked by our waiter—something we haven’t experienced here before. It was disappointing, especially since it was the only thing that felt off during an otherwise excellent meal. That said, we’ll definitely be back—the food and the view keep us coming back every time.

    My 70th birthday lunch with family and friends. Excellent!! The view was incredible, food fantastic and staff and management friendly and helpful. It was a memorable day for everyone
