Chard Grill & Wine Bar is a bespoke establishment in the Village Square on the famous Hermanus waterfront.

While meat eaters have come to accept the view that a good steak has to be one of the traditionally tender and juicy cuts, at Chard the emphasis is on unusual and innovative cuts of beef as well as the old time classics.

Supplied by artisan butchers who are following the modern global trend to utilise as much of the carcass as possible, these new wave, alternative cuts are no longer flying under the radar and are presenting diners with a whole new culinary experience.

    The steaks were excellent, as was the wines. Last time we were here I had the XO brandy tasting plater, I was disappointed it was not available this time.

    No A/C inside on a very hot day. Waitress seemed bothered when we asked for things that were missing. Waited a very long time for the bill. Food was good but I wish we would have tried someplace else.

    Excellent sirloin and the bone marrow jus is a winner with it. Excellent service, happy to go the extra mile. Will visit again.

    Thanks to google AI I arrived on a Monday night thinking it was a burger special night. So paying R170 for a burger was unexpected. As a local I have been there a few times, and wanted to give feedback on the pulled beef burger we had... 1. It was smothered with the corn/cabbage? mixture - surely this should be mentioned on the menu? There was too much of it, it was a huge pile on my plate. I couldn't see any other other ingredients. 2. The wonton wrapper was way under, so was soggy - would have preferred it crispy. 3. The caramelized onions were actually deep friend onions. 4. The blue cheese was minimal. The burger was on the small side, and should be the hero, as the flavour was delicious. Overall it was good, but that corn/cabbage mixture was over the top.
