Chard Grill & Wine Bar is a bespoke establishment in the Village Square on the famous Hermanus waterfront.

While meat eaters have come to accept the view that a good steak has to be one of the traditionally tender and juicy cuts, at Chard the emphasis is on unusual and innovative cuts of beef as well as the old time classics.

Supplied by artisan butchers who are following the modern global trend to utilise as much of the carcass as possible, these new wave, alternative cuts are no longer flying under the radar and are presenting diners with a whole new culinary experience.

    The location is at the heart of Hermanus. The food, steaks and fries were of a good quality. The wine as expected in South Africa. BUT, the restaurant, catering for, I would say, well situated customers, over 50 (only 2 tables with younger customers) if not 60, should maybe change the bumping loud disco music, blaring out of every corners loudspeakers. We had booked a table, we got one just under a loudspeaker, no solution could be found, we got up to leave, then a solution wad founded, which we accepted. The service people were very nice, we talked to the manager about it, he seem to understand us. But, I would not take the risk to eat there again. Our vacated table was filled with new customer and even there, the man pointed at the loudspeaker.....we were not the only one! Sorry, food perfect, service ok but we have experienced better and the rest an absolute no go. Management should know for whom they cater for. Review from a travel agent.

    Good food and atmosphere. Slightly pricy for what is on offer. Would certainly go again. Tables a bit close together.
