Chard Grill & Wine Bar is a bespoke establishment in the Village Square on the famous Hermanus waterfront.

While meat eaters have come to accept the view that a good steak has to be one of the traditionally tender and juicy cuts, at Chard the emphasis is on unusual and innovative cuts of beef as well as the old time classics.

Supplied by artisan butchers who are following the modern global trend to utilise as much of the carcass as possible, these new wave, alternative cuts are no longer flying under the radar and are presenting diners with a whole new culinary experience.

    We‘re coming from Germany to Hermanus and our german friends told us about the best Filet Steaks in your Restaurant. At our visit all Filet Steaks are gone :-(

    Thank you for your feedback and for visiting us during your trip to Hermanus. We’re truly sorry that the fillet was unavailable on the day of your visit. We made the decision to pull it from the menu because we were not satisfied with the quality of the meat delivered that day, and we never want to serve a product that doesn’t meet our standards. We understand how disappointing this must have been, especially after hearing such great recommendations from your friends. We hope you’ll visit us again so we can give you the full experience, including the fillet we’re known for when the quality is exactly as it should be. Thank you again for your understanding.

    The techno-music cover songs spoiled the ambience, but then again we're old-school rockers. Our waiter Siya was an absolute pleasure to deal with.

    We have visited Char’d on a couple of occassions before. Always our go to testaurant when we visit Hermanus. It was the first time we brought my 80year old parents in law. We booked a table for 1800hrs and just before 2000hrs we ordered don pedros. When the don pedros arrived at 2004hrs we were informed that the table was booked again from 2000hrs. This was never mentioned when I did the online reservation more than a week ago, or when we arrived. We spend R3000 on the meal and this spoiled the evening as my parents in law said we should finish up as other people were waiting for the table. Food and service was great as always, but this totally spoiled the evening.

While we’re delighted to hear the food and service were up to the standard you’ve come to expect, we are genuinely sorry that your evening was overshadowed by the table rebooking issue. This should have been communicated clearly at the time of booking and again upon arrival, and we understand how uncomfortable it must have felt, especially with your parents-in-law wanting to rush through the end of their meal. This is not the experience we want for any of our guests, and we sincerely apologise that this was not handled with the care and clarity it deserved. We’ll be reviewing both our reservation communication and how our team manages table turnovers to ensure this situation doesn’t repeat itself.     Great menu to choose from. Hubby was desperate for a burger so went for the bacon/cheese and was a happy boy. I had a dry aged t-bone. Very good. Baked cauli on the side exceptional. Great desserts too! Only thing that let the place down was drinks-we weren't offered any additional and our waitron seemed to go awol at times. Totally recommend though as quality and value for money excellent.
