Mr Chau & his gargantuan gaggle of foodie friends just LOVE FOOD.
And after extensive travel & existential eating around Asia, we have brought the mostest & the bestest & the deepest flavours back home to you.

Why is Mr Chau called Chunky Chau? Because Mr Chau is not 'fat'.

‘Chunky’, on the other hand, can be used to refer to someone who is short and muscular. Being short and broad shouldered, he looks heavy. Unlike ‘fat’, ‘chunky’ does not have a negative connotation. In fact, according to some books on usage, native speakers sometimes use the word to indicate affection.

Walking into Chunky Choa, my first impression was that the space felt a little “cold” and not as inviting as I had hoped. After being shown to our table and handed menus, we were left unattended for almost 10 minutes before anyone came to assist us, which made us feel overlooked. My husband ordered the bottomless bao buns and sushi, and he thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The presentation was beautiful, the flavours were fresh, and it was clear this is a strength of the restaurant. Based on his experience alone, the bao buns and sushi are worth returning for. Unfortunately, my meal was less satisfying. I ordered the “spicy” miso noodle broth, which had no spice and lacked depth of flavour. When I asked for chili oil, I was given one that tasted more like Thai fish sauce with sesame seeds, which didn’t pair well at all. For dessert, I tried the lime cheesecake, but it tasted overly processed and lacked the freshness I expected. On a positive note, a gentleman I believe was the manager stopped by, apologized for the cheesecake, and kindly removed it from the bill — a thoughtful gesture I appreciated. What left me most disappointed, however, was that I had made a note in my reservation that it was my husband’s birthday. Unfortunately, this went completely unacknowledged, which was disheartening as even a small gesture would have made the evening feel more special. Overall, the experience was mixed. For me, it wasn’t a 10/10 — the atmosphere, slow start to service, and lack of flavour in my dishes left me underwhelmed. But my husband absolutely loved his meal, which gives me reason to return and try the bao buns and sushi myself.

I want to say I was deeply disappointed on arrival when I was told we can't order from the a la carte menu. If I knew, I would have not booked on the day as it was not even mentioned on your website. That being said food was really nice but still I was really upset as I invited guests out who had already had a look at the menu and were excited to delete dishes from there not beinf forced into the bottomless. We also travelled a distance so it was not ok
