The food wasn’t really tasteful.. Prior to last week we visited the place and ordered seafood which was abit dry for a seafood platter. But overall service was good and the place was very clean and beautiful🙏

We had a great dinner at Crane and Feathers. We were a party of 8 and every dish ordered was delicious and very much enjoyed. The service was great. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to friends and family. We had pasta dishes, the spice kingklip, the Durban curry, lamb chops and the chicken and prawns combo. No complaints. Every dish was delicious. Another favorite was the chocolate fondant and the Creme brulee. Definitely worth a visit.

Plethora of issues faced on our visit; given that it was Valentine’s Day, we had to select meals from the Chef’s Menu for the day - 2 menus, 1 with pricing and the other was sort of an SQ menu. We’d decided to order off the “priced” menu as we had our 4 month old with us, so wasn’t really in a ‘fine dining’ mood. Our starters (Calamari) was over done and lacked seasoning; furthermore, the peri-peri sauce did nothing but ruin the dish. Mains were T-bone steak (600g) for me, and the Baby Chicken for the wife. Whilst waiting on our mains, the little one started to kick up a fuss, so we had to take turns pacifying him. Mains arrived so I let the wife eat first while I dealt the kid. Not even a bite in and she was already put-off, as she found multiple features still on the pieces; the staff was apologetic and concurred upon further examination. They offered to replace the meal, or to select something else off the menu (bare in mind that it’s a limited menu and most meals were made using wine - we don’t consume alcohol, so options were slim); during this time, our baby is getting agitated, so we decided to doggie bag my steak and just head on back home. Now, between us deciding to leave and my wife addressing her meal; the waitress acted upon herself to have a new meal prepared, based on a consideration that my wife had, never agreed, but considered; however we just wanted to get out, so we accepted the meal. The Bill comes and WHAT THE FEATHERS - R1650 for 2 starters, 2 mains, and 2 mocktails (which tasted weaker than a melted popsicle BTW). Found out later after revisiting the website, that prices were hiked up by around 35% for the same meals they offer daily… what a scam!! But I guess it was money making opportunity, given that people out of their way to spoil loved ones on Valentine’s Day.. And my steak, well got home and boy ow boy was I disappointed; ordered medium-well and got WELL-WELL, I mean it was so over grilled and dry - what a waste…

Crane & Feathers responded on Sat 28 Feb 26:
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re truly sorry to hear that your Valentine’s Day experience did not meet your expectations, especially on what should have been a special occasion for you and your family. We’d like to provide some clarity and address the concerns you raised: On the evening, we offered two menu options - a set menu as well as a tailored alternative for guests who preferred not to dine from the set offering. While some dish names may have been similar to our à la carte menu, the portions and accompaniments differed, which is reflected in the pricing. There was no intention to increase prices unfairly, but rather to provide a different dining experience for the occasion. We sincerely apologise for the issue with the baby chicken. This was brought to our attention and handled immediately by management, and a replacement meal was prepared with your consent (if this was a miscommunication on our part - we apologize). We regret any inconvenience caused during this time, particularly given your circumstances with your little one. Regarding the menu options, only one dish included a wine-based component, and we do try to accommodate various dietary preferences where possible. We’re also sorry to hear that the calamari and peri-peri basting did not meet your expectations - had we been made aware at the time, we would have gladly corrected this for you. In terms of pricing, the total bill covered two starters, two mains, two beverages, and a 10% gratuity, and reflects our offering as a fine dining establishment. That said, we understand that value is also measured by the overall experience, and we regret that we fell short in this instance. We’re also sorry to hear about your disappointment with the steak. Once meals are reheated after leaving the restaurant, the texture and doneness can unfortunately change, but we understand your frustration. Please know that we take all feedback seriously. Our business is built on customer satisfaction, attentive service, and meaningful guest experiences, and we continuously strive to uphold these values. Your comments have been noted and will be used to improve where needed. We would appreciate the opportunity to reach out to you directly to apologise personally and discuss how we can make this right. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
