In 1968 the property was acquired by Historical Homes to be restored - later leased as a restaurant. During 2016 the Rupert family initiated a full restoration, today De Volkskombuis operates once again as a restaurant serving patrons within Stellenbosch.

    What a beautiful and serene space. Great food and menu options and also helpful staff. Try their Springbok main, you'll want seconds and thirds!

    Have eaten here a few times and have always been happy with the food and service, hence I booked here again on a recent trip back from the USA. My wife and I both ordered the Sirloin steak and they were underwhelming to say the least. Very bland in colour and lacking seasoning and flavour. The chips and veggies however were delicious as were the other dishes that our guests ordered. Was still a pleasant experience, but I think the steaks need to be given a bit more attention.
