In 1968 the property was acquired by Historical Homes to be restored - later leased as a restaurant. During 2016 the Rupert family initiated a full restoration, today De Volkskombuis operates once again as a restaurant serving patrons within Stellenbosch.

    Hello, we were extremely disappointed in the lack of service. Even after I have informed the manager on duty nothing was done. We were only 4 tables inside. The seating was poorly arranged as you sat in 4 corners and felt like sitting in an empty big restaurant. No background music, the only sound was the waiter dressing knife and forks on tables. We waited so long for just someone to take our drinks order (had to go and ask if someone can come) and unfortunately the service got worse. Even when the steak was ordered we had to ask the waiter are you not going to ask if she would like a sauce with it. the drinks was empty and the waiter did not come and ask if we would like something new. i had to go again and ask for someone and the other waiter helped us.

    Everything was spot on except the kitchen provided one carafe of orange juice for 7 people. This was equal to not 3 properly filled glasses. We shared a second carafe amongst 4 (half filled). Disappointing as I “sold” the juice to everyone!
