In 1968 the property was acquired by Historical Homes to be restored - later leased as a restaurant. During 2016 the Rupert family initiated a full restoration, today De Volkskombuis operates once again as a restaurant serving patrons within Stellenbosch.

    I had international visitors and took them to De Volkskombuis for dinner. The venue was warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed good food and great service. I will definitely take my guests there again.

    A lovely evening. I will visit again. The only reason I didnt give 5 starts for Ambience, was that we were on the patio and it was a bit chilly. We were a group of 10, so I think that is why (when I booked online I was told outside was only choice, but the inside did look quite open so it would have been nice to be moved inside to be warmer, if that was possible). This is a small thing though, in an excellent experience. Service was perfectly paced and food was magnificent.
