In 1968 the property was acquired by Historical Homes to be restored - later leased as a restaurant. During 2016 the Rupert family initiated a full restoration, today De Volkskombuis operates once again as a restaurant serving patrons within Stellenbosch.

    We had a superb meal (Bobotie) at this restaurant & thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Our waiter, Anathi, gave us excellent service & we enjoyed our conversation with him. It was just what we needed after a twelve hour flight
