The Duchess is the brainchild of a team with two decades of restaurant experience, straight out of the bustling streets of Johannesburg.

Imagine stumbling upon a hidden NYC speak-easy or discovering a secret spot in a Parisian alley, it’s the kind of joint where you might find Woody Allen’s crew—Picasso, Dali, and Hemingway—just hanging out.

One of the best experiences for dinner in Cape Town. Classy yet fun, incredible food and a little "secret music/dance" surprise at the end. Will be back for sure!

You go for experience dining. It is fun, energetic and then food is actually well priced and tasteful for the type of joint the restaurant turns into later. Especially on a Thursday, a huge vibe! But 1. Drinks are extremely over-priced. Try to catch you with the alcohol in your cocktail being charged additionally. And per past experience, as soon as you start ordering rounds of shots for a big table, some additional shots just magically appear on your bill - which is very hard to argue against. I've heard this from multiple people, so have since avoided ordering massive rounds of shots or shots from the girls walking around with a bottle of tequila. 2. The owner. Look, the service has always been shabby. But going there, you expect it...as it gets busy post dining. But going to find the waitress to find out where the wine and shots we ordered 60mins ago were... then being shouted at by the owner from the back saying "I'll deal with it" "we are busy honey, so F off" and when saying we already paid R1000 deposit per head "that it your problem, F off". It was actually my friend's birthday who went to the waitress to ask on our pending drinks. So it was quite embarrassing for me to have her arrive back at the table in tears, when she was my guest and the evening was my treat to take her there for her birthday for the first time. In the future, a simple "I am SO sorry, we are extremely busy, I'll get someone to deliver it straight away" - would really suffice.
