    Hi, I don’t usually (read: never) post reviews for restaurants, but this was an extremely disappointing time for me. This is the 2nd time I’ve been here; the 1st time was a very pleasant time, which is why I even recommended your place to my friends, since I never had this issue before. This day, however, the 24 August, the owner, who wore the Florentin cap and shirt, was racist — or at the very least, micro aggressive — towards me. The whole time I was standing waiting to be seated for a table that I called and booked for. He ignored me and was too busy with his father-in-law and girlfriend. No help; even when I tried to make acknowledgement with him through coming up to him or eye contact, but he still he ignored me. But as soon as my white friend walked in, he gave her all the attention and greetings. When I then explained that I was the one who did the booking, he still ignored me and only spoke to her. Clearly, to him, their black customers don't deserve acknowledgement or conversation, just their white customers. This is so disappointing because I constantly recommend this place to friends and colleagues, only for their owner to turn out to be racist. When I brought this up with my white friend, she acknowledged she noticed the same thing and was uncomfortable that he kept ignoring me. It sucks when a place you hype up doesn’t care for you or your race, but it especially sucks when you think a place is pro-you but then shows you otherwise. Hope they do better, Tumi

    Hi Tumi, We are deeply saddened to read your review, as the claims made are not only untrue but also misrepresents who we are and what Florentin stands for. We take pride in building a space rooted in inclusivity, diversity, respect, and hospitality. The restaurant is accessed through a hotel lobby where we have 100s of people standing around everyday in the lobby waiting to check in, waiting for Ubers or to meet someone from the hotel. It seems like you may have mistakenly been seen as a hotel guest. That was our oversight, and we sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding. It was not anybody’s intention to ignore you or anyone else. If anything this is a lapse in service and that is something we can fix, but this certainly has nothing to do with race. We were not made aware of any concern at the time, and it's disappointing that this interpretation of events has led to such a serious public allegation. We have both staff testimonies and CCTV footage that do not support your version of events described. While you're entitled to your opinion, reviews like this and defaming the business owner is very damaging — not only personally, but also to the livelihood of our hardworking team who show up every day with genuine care and dedication. Florentin will always strive to treat every customer with respect and to provide a welcoming experience for all. Once again, we are truly sorry that you feel this way. We have tried to call you a few times but unfortunately there is no answer. Having said that, you are always welcome at Florentin and we will continue to give our best every day to ensure that our guests have a memorable experience when coming here.     Mgt and Staff were amazingly accommodating and for a first time being there, it was a super pleasant experience. A little noisy, but after a table of 10 raucously loud women left, it returned to a very comfortable atmosphere. I think I may have had a dodgy piece of chicken, spent half the night in the toilet, but otherwise a great restaurant.

    We loved our first experience at Florentin. We live in the southern suburbs so we're often lazy to drive into the city on a weekend but very happy that we did. The food was superb and the cocktail was heavenly. Can't wait to try more items on the menu!
