    This was such a wonderful experience. The ambiance is special, with the vintage decoration. The food was delicious 😋, we had the soup of the day, ribeye and porc filet with vegetables. Everything tasted great. The service was immaculate, friendly, funny and helpful. We will be back!

    We reserved a table for brunch, specifically requesting to be seated in the garden because it would be a beautiful day. The booking system actually asks whether you want to sit inside or in the garden. When we arrived we were told our table was inside. When we asked to be seated outside it appeared to be an issue and after some debate they finally allowed us to sit outside. There was no one else there and there were plenty of tables. I had checked the menu beforehand for vegan options and there were 2. When I reserved our table I had also mentined that we had 2 vegans in the group coming for breakfast. I was not concerned as we had previously had a delicious vegan dinner at the Hawthorne where the team has even given us a special menu and the food was wonderful. The one vegan dish we asked for (tofu scramble) was not available. The other was merely avo on toast. We asked the waitress what else they could offer. They put together some items but the food was really not very nice. The sourdough toast was hard and cold, no vegan spread was offered, the "rosti" was not a rosti at all but crumbled potato, the avo was ice cold and arrived halfway through the meal and the other food items were just great. I could have made a much tastier, far less expensive breakfast at home. I'm very disappointed because our previous dinner experience was like night and day to this experience. I do expect good service and delicious food when we come to a hotel where a premium is charged. This realy spoilt my impression of the Forester and I don't think we will take the chance again. Such a pity.

    Excellent, interesting meal served in charming surroundings… olde-worlde charm preserved without pretension. A five star experience… would like to return. The chef deserves a special mention for the interesting combinations e.g.lamb kaaings with krummelpap, milk tart ice-cream 🌟

    Forester Restaurant was the perfect place to celebrate our 27th anniversary. Thank you for making it so special, for the handwritten note, the champagne and the vegan menu with so many really creative and absolutely delicious choices! We has such a lovely dinner, the ambience was cosy and all the fairy lights outside made it very special. We will definately return, maybe for breakfast in the pretty gardens. Thank you Hawthorn team!
