Nestled at the foot of our majestic mountains, in the leafy suburb of Newlands, Cape Town, Foresters Arms Restaurant and Pub (fondly referred to by the locals as Forries), is one of the oldest pubs in South Africa and provides the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.

    Disappointing and shocking. I have always loved Forries but my latest experience has left me wondering what happened to the establishment that I once loved. I booked a table for 3 online and when I got to the restaurant they had seated us at a high table (meant for only 2) and in the walkway where everyone was queuing to get the carvery. Luckily we were moved. We were a table of 3. Two of us ordered pies and one ordered the bangers and mash. After about 15/20 mins we were told that they had sold out of the pies and we needed to make another choice so we all chose bangers and mash. Again 15 minutes or more goes by and we get told they only have 2 portions of B&M so need to make another choice. No apology from management. I called over the manager and explained I wasn't happy and all he could tell me was that it was a long weekend and they had been slammed. Sorry, but that's poor planning. We all knew it was a long weekend. When the bill arrived, nothing was taken off the bill to compensate for running out of not 1 but 2 meals on their menu and us waiting over 30 minutes to be notified. A once loyal Forries supporter no longer.

    Their Menu is vast, and there is so much to choose from. All their Tapaz dishes are delicious.

    Very noisy and the service was not up to scratch. We ordered fish, and it was okay. Parking was hard to find. I won’t be going back.
