Ganesh is brought to you from the team behind Bodega Ramen. As Obs locals themselves, they have taken over the institution that is Cafe Ganesh in Observatory now Ganesh. It remains a space synonymous with crayfish samoosas, late-night conversations, live music, sharing of quarts and a meeting space for friends, locals, artists, students and activists. The building has been given a facelift and the restaurant at the back has been turned into a small Thai Street Food restaurant. Embracing Thai Kitsch and the street food flavours and experience the three owners (Ryan, Bryn and Jade) had while travelling Thailand together.

Ganesh host's weekly music events on Thursday at 7pm in the bar area and on Sunday from 4pm. Thursdays focus on Vinyl Selectors and Jazz - please check their Instagram for what's on. On Sunday's the focus is on ambient and experimental music and two Thai Curries are served. No bookings taken.

    We went with great expectations as we've heard alot about the updated Ganesh. We were shown to our booked table (which I requested a nice table), only to be shown to literally a 2 seater table in a corner for 3 pax. We requested if we could move, however were told that we'll have to wait and see. So 2 people squished into a bench while one had a chair. Service was shocking. We ordered wine, to be requested twice if we want a bottle, as they forgot. The bottle of wine came and was opened without showing us, and as such was also an incorrect more expensive bottle and not what we ordered. We nevertheless drank the wine as we didn't want to wait more. A beer shandy was ordered later, only to never arrive, and then one of our party had to walk to the kitchen and ask for the shandy. Apologies proceeded. We've been to Thailand many times and love the cuisine, and I can honestly say that this is not a true reflection of Thai cuisine. I don't know if we had a bad night or what, but the food was bland, we had to add everything on the table to make it taste like something. The fried chicken wasn't even fried properly, as the crumbs were still soft. The fried rice we had was only acceptable, but the Phad Krapow was not nearly what it's supposed to be. During the night, we expected the place to fill up, hence we couldn't move from our 2 seater table, but in the end, half of the restaurant was still empty when we left, and was never offered to move to another table. I seriously don't know what the hype was about, as we definitely won't be back. Poor service, poor food, and poor management.

    We had the best time at Ganesh, the food is super duper good! Very good value for money. Great that they could manage a large group. We'll be back!
