Gerakaris Family Wines was founded in 2009 by Kath Gerakaris. Our boutique winery in the heart of Craighall Park, Jozi, produces wines from grapes sourced from a single farm in the Swartland, Western Cape. Five wines are made by winemaker Kath Gerakaris. Two Chenin blancs and three Syrahs.

Wine tastings are R150 person. We also serve a cheese board designed to match our wines, show casing four South African cheese producers, and bowls of Cape Olives. We have a small garden and we like it this way because we can chat to everyone about what we do… however it does mean weekends get busy and you need to make a booking ahead of time.

Our wine tastings take from half an hour to an hour and a half depending on the size of your group. We therefore reserve your table for a maximum of 2 hours.

    The venue itself is beautiful and very relaxing, which we truly enjoyed. However, the wines were all extremely dry — even the rosé, which was correctly stated as dry, felt dry-dry with no balance. None of the wines offered a demi-sec or sweeter option to accommodate individuals who prefer a softer taste profile. We were also surprised by the serving style: all five wines were poured into a single glass, whereas we expected each wine to be served in its own glass so we could savor them at our own pace. Lastly, while the agents were wonderful and very friendly, we found it unsettling that the owner repeatedly asked why we were not tipping them. Choosing not to tip does not mean the service was poor, and the questioning felt unprofessional and detracted from the overall experience.

    My family had lots of fun at Gerakaris on Saturday. Wonderful service, great cheese and wine variety and atmosphere. Great friendly service from Janine!
