Located at the popular V&A Waterfront, specialising in gourmet burgers and ribs and over 207 handspun ‘wow’ shakes with a further 65 extra toppings that you can add for your enjoyment. Setting out on a quest to create ‘The Best Burger’, we visited the top burger joints in the ‘Burger Capitals of the World’ – Chicago, New York and Las Vegas, and then tapped into the expertise of Belthazar’s Master Butcher, our 27 years’ of experience in making sauces at our SABS HACCP factory, and feedback from hundreds of burger tastings with colleagues, friends and customers. We then created 49 hand crafted burgers.

    This was not simply a disappointing meal. It was a serious failure in food quality, kitchen judgement and basic quality control. We have visited this restaurant more than 10 times over the past year because the pizzas and desserts are excellent. That is why this steak experience is so disappointing. A restaurant that clearly gets some things very right should not be allowing steak of this quality to reach a customer’s table. This is now the second poor steak experience months apart. The first time, I ordered a medium steak and received a dry, badly overcooked piece of meat that was beyond well done. Feedback was given, the manager called and apologised, and I accepted it as an isolated mistake. After yesterday, I no longer believe that. The ribeye winter special I was served was unacceptable. The first steak did not resemble a proper ribeye cut. It was full of poor-quality, fat, tough, spongy when pressed, and looked like something that should have been rejected before it ever reached the grill. I would not have bought that piece of meat from a butchery, and I cannot understand how it was allowed to leave the kitchen. To the manager’s credit, the issue was acknowledged and a replacement was offered. But the replacement still failed on the basics. I specifically requested no basting and asked for it to be cooked medium. It arrived covered in sweet basting and still underdone. At that point the experience was beyond saving. My concern is not only that I had a bad steak. My concern is that there appears to be no serious control over the meat being bought, accepted, prepared, checked and served. At the V&A Waterfront, with both local and international visitors, this is simply not acceptable. The owner should urgently review the steak supplier, cut specification, kitchen acceptance standards and final plate check before food leaves the pass. This should not be brushed off as one unlucky meal.

    Food is tasty. Milkshakes are out of this world. Service was great however they were busy so it took a while for orders. Ultimately you cannot go wrong. I'll definitely visit again and again. Probably will try everything on their menu :)
