BISTRO AT GRANDE PROVENCE

The Bistro is a casual yet contemporary eatery, the perfect destination for anyone seeking a top-tier Cape wine farm experience, but with meals served in a more relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

Having said that, it doesn’t compromise luxury for accessibility, and we found the service exceptional, the tables beautifully decked, and the décor striking the perfect balance between casual and sophisticated.

Our Head Chef Marvin Robyn designed an easy, simplistic menu that caters to all.

Inside the Bistro feels like an extension of the wine estate, beaming with natural light and open space. True to its nature, the ambiance of the Bistro is relaxed and tranquil. The vineyards and garden surround the Bistro, making it ideal for parents with young kids. Children can play on the Jungle Gym in a safe area whilst the adults eat and drink merrily.

The Bistro at Grande Provence Franschhoek is just next door to the garden sculpture, gallery, and outdoor wine tasting area. Children are welcome to play along the open grass area.

With laid-back, unpretentious decor, the food is exactly that. Farm fresh produce and Bistro-style dishes are just what your taste buds are dying for. If you are after wholesome, freshly made gourmet fare, then you will be pleasantly surprised.

Lovely location, with beautiful artwork in the surrounding area. Our food was really good, as were the drinks.

The location was beautiful and the grounds were stunning with shaded lawns and gorgeous sculptures throughout. 10/10 for this part. The picnic seemed like a romantic and unique idea - the blankets and poufs made things clean and comfortable and the baskets were very pretty and picturesque. I was a little underwhelmed with the freshness with some of the food. The bread was stale and the cheese portions were very dried out. Maybe if wrapped in an airtight container this would have worked better. It seemed like the food was not kept refrigerated. We picked up our picnic on the earlier side of the pickup window (12:30pm). The noodle salad, couscous salad in mason jars were good, and wraps which were wrapped tightly in plastic were tasty and fresh. We also liked the hummus, fruit and other accoutrements. Desserts were also nice. Overall we did have a lovely experience and would come back - would maybe just eat at the restaurant instead, though lounging on picnics blankets and pillows was just too nice.

Comfortable outdoor seating - good for family with small kids. Service was good. The fish mains was a bit overcooked and cold. Oysters needed to be served on ice on a hot day.

Most of us had the meat. The lamb chops were overcooked, dry, lacked seasoning and the presentation was less desirable. Yhe chicken wings were drenched in salty sauce which overpowered the chicked, and overcooked. The bread sandwich in the meat platter is unappertising to say the least. It was burnt on the side and just reminded me of poor food not fitting the establishment. Please revisit this and retrain your staff.
