Gusto Urban Italian Restaurant is located in Century City, Cape Town – an
Italian inspired restaurant with a wood-fired oven and views over Ratanga Park and
Canal.
Infused with contemporary and urban influences, it has a far more stylish and trendy
feel than your traditional trattoria or pizzeria. Gusto includes to-go and deli offerings,
true Italian style al fresco dining on the piazza, and an extensive wine list with both
local and Italian favourites - curated by the collaboration of a South African
sommelier and Italian chef, ensuring the wine and food complement each other and
remain true to the Urban Italian inspiration of Gusto.
Take in the calming canal views indoors or sit back in the piazza, in true Italian
alfresco style, and start or end your day with a plate of joy, a plate of vibrance, a
plate of Gusto.

Initially the starters came to the table burnt. After starters were finished we waited over 45 minutes for our waiter to return to place our mains order. It was noted that our waiter spent more time socialising in the kitchen / with kitchen staff (our table was located where we had a clear view). The hostess did more clearing of tables than our waiter in my opinion. Ended up leaving the table to go to the manager to place the next course order. One guests meal was incorrect; it needing to be sent back while other guests waiting (food getting cold). When we ate, the food was not as described on the menu but by this point we added salt and pepper for flavour as we didn’t see the point of trying any further due to poor service. The general feel (ambience) of restaurant is rated well, nice finishings. So best summed up as all form no function; at prices where you’d expect better in all aspects.

We had such a lovely experience at Gusto’s Italian Restaurant. Th food was absolutely delicious and the service, as always, was exceptional with by Uti. A special thank you to Jaundré (Manager) for my beautiful bottle of Italian Rosé, it truly made us feel extra special. We genuinely love being regulars at Gusto’s, with specific praise to the awesome chef and his kitchen staff. FOH staff are also consistently professional. Gustos always feels like such a warm and welcoming space, extra bonus for the touch of class. Looking forward to Gusto’s again for our Mother’s Day dinner. (K Gihwala Family) 💐

Service at Gusto in Century City/Canal Walk was very slow, the waiters seemed to be all over the place. It took a long time for each course to arrive. Drinks were good I’ll give it to them Mains - the cream base I had in the pasta with beef strips tasted burnt and there was no flavour, I had to tweak it in order for it to taste better. Dessert - the chocolate cheesecake looked like it was in the fridge for over 3 days, taste was good but texture was bad, it wasnt creamy and the coco powder to create ratio was not it, the top layer was hard, I had to fight for each piece. Manager sorted it out but please Gusto taste the food before serving it to your guests and ask yourself if you would eat it. This review is coming from a person who studied food, I know food and I know what I’m talking about. Lastly, on the note part of the reservation process I had written that it was my friend’s birthday and no one took note of it, no one did anything. My friend did not enjoy the experience at all and we both have been wanting to go to Gusto and we were disappointed.
