They say money can't buy happiness, but it can buy a Hudsons burger - and that right there is the epitome of happiness.

The freshly baked golden bun with just the right amount of crisp outside and pillowy softness inside; don't underestimate the power of two really good buns, we certainly don't.

If you know us, we don't take life too seriously - we stay up too late, we play the music too loud and wear our jeans a little tighter than they should be. When it comes to our burgers though, it's serious business. We want to make sure that every last bite smacks you through the face with a big whack of happiness.

Thanks to our juicy, perfectly seasoned, sizzled, griddled and charred free-range beef patties, cradled oh-so-gently in-between those aforementioned bronzed buns and draped in our world-famous sauces with generous toppings, each mouthful is simply glorious.

We think this could be the start of a beautiful relationship. Stand back, things are about to get messy: get ready to lose yourself in happiness, otherwise known as The Hudsons Burger.

    We’ve been to Hudson’s Claremont more than three times and have always enjoyed coming here. We even know Dominic, who usually serves us at the bar, and he consistently goes above and beyond to make sure we have a great experience. We always tip him because of the excellent service he provides. Unfortunately, yesterday was a very different experience. We were a group of three and had originally reserved a table, but a waitress asked us to move when a larger group arrived. We understood and moved without making an issue of it. We were then served by another waitress, Kat (if I remember her name correctly). The biggest issue was that Kat hardly checked on our table. She took our orders and brought us a bottle of wine, but only offered to pour it once. After that, she never came back to check on us or our wine, so we had to refill our own glasses throughout the evening. Because our table was hardly checked on, it also became extremely dirty and untidy. Dirty plates and used serviettes were left on the table for so long that we eventually had to move them onto the table next to us just to create enough clean space for ourselves. We were there to enjoy ourselves and have a conversation, but the state of the table became very unpleasant. What made this particularly disappointing was that we had a friend visiting from Johannesburg and were excited to bring her to one of our favourite spots and show her why we enjoy Hudson’s. Unfortunately, the service left her unimpressed, which was embarrassing for us as regular customers. At the end of the evening, we decided not to leave a tip. Kat approached us and asked why. We explained honestly that it was because of the service we received. She disagreed and felt the service did not warrant withholding a tip, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. We are not against tipping—we regularly tip when we receive good service. However, a tip should reflect the service provided.

    Went for an early dinner with a couple of friends this past Friday to take advantage of the happy hour specials on drinks. I ordered the cheese nachos with chicken added, which came in a healthy sized portion and was very good. Our waitress Kristin was very sweet and attentive and made sure we had a good experience.

    I didn’t see a maitre’d when I first arrived, so I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to wait outside or enter the restaurant to be seated. Then there was some confusion between the wait staff and the owner about where my reserved table was, which was a little off-putting. I also don’t understand why sides are sold separately from the main courses, it makes the meal less value-for-money in my opinion. Other than that, the wait staff were very attentive and the food was nice.
