The team responsible for this special, culinary experience on La Motte, is led by Chef Lara van Heerden in the JAN Franschhoek kitchen. Expect regional traditions, familiar flavours and local ingredients transformed to reflect the exciting context of modern global cuisine. Sourced and prepared with the utmost care and consideration, dishes are paired with the estate’s award-winning wines and presented with mesmerizing flair.

    We were blessed to be able to enjoy the last lunch service for the season on 26 April 2026. The weather was gloomy and raining, but that actually added to the cosy atmosphere and experience. We met some great people during our combie drive and during the lunch, and that indeed, added to the overall enjoyment of the day. The chef went to great care to cater for an allergy of mine and at no point did I feel like I was missing out. My standout dishes included: Roosterkoek (delicous, fresh, soft, and so South African), the spekboom and melon (fresh, and interesting combinations) and the lobster, boland, frozen apple, smoked haddock (intricate and oh so delicious). Based on my preferences, the lamb was a bit overcooked and the malva was super sweet. We received Jan's book and bottle of wine at the end of the lunch and the bottke of rose is now on my shopping list. It will forever be a standout experience and it made us feel incredibly proud to be South African, and for all that Jan has achieved so far.

    A totally different experience than JAN Nice, but so worth it. The South African JAN experience with his food from his roots. Every dish had a surprise taste to it. It was just a most wonderful meal and wine had by all.

    I do fine dining quite often, so it’s difficult to stand out, but at JAN every dish was a surprise in taste in the best possible way. My favorite definitely was „Spekboom, Melon, Basil“ and I have never had a cheese table under the stars. I will definitely come back again!

    I truly have no words for our experience at JAN Franschhoek! It was nothing short of EXCEPTIONAL and MAGICAL! The attention to detail was simply extraordinary and exceptional in every sense! I'm already saving up for our next Jan Experience! We loved Tswalu and La Motte was incredible. So different and so mind blowing! What a true South African ambassador and thank-you for making our birthdays so special and memorable. A memory we will treasure forever.
