The team responsible for this special, culinary experience on La Motte, is led by Chef Lara van Heerden in the JAN Franschhoek kitchen.     Didn‘t meet our expectations- food was very heavy, the menu didn’t seem to have a concept and the main course was family style dishes on the table to share - not what you would expect on such a level. The wine was very good, the staff was super friendly, ambience very special. It’s a nice experience, but in total too expensive for the menu you get.

    Tremendous all around experience. Truly unique 'dinner theater'. We have eaten in dozens of Michelin star restaurants around the world, and JAN compares favorably to most. Detracting from the event, however, is that the hearth just spews smoke into the room throughout the meal; we may now have to burn our clothes....

    Jan created a beautiful experience. It lasts five hours. I recommend it. Even getting reservations is difficult as seats are limited to 18 people. At the same time, Jan needs to reengage with this thing he created more frequently. The ambience is still magical, but the overall experience had lapses that need to be addressed. Just getting to the venue took an hour. Service was sporadic. The experience needed more leadership.
