Award-winning Chef Marcus and our talented team travelled 1,627 kilometres across the province — from the fishing docks of Kalk Bay to the vast plains of the Karoo, along the Garden Route, and back to Cape Town’s treasured Bo-Kaap — researching, tasting, and uncovering the essence of this remarkable region.

Now, Chef Marcus brings 100 years of Western Cape food culture to the table — celebrating the flavours, traditions, and stories that define it.

    Wow! That’s almost all I can say when eating at Urchin for the first time, Chef Marcus and his team has taken my girlfriend and I on a very special journey through the Western Cape, showcasing our very unique culture in many different ways, either through the crockery that instantly transports me back to my oumas house or the elevated main meal that brought back nostalgic memories of Sunday lunches with the family, from the start of our journey with the welcoming drink all the way towards the end with the iconic Padkos, it was truly a journey that will resonate with me, espically the stories that come with the team through that have travelled too curate this journey and display it Infront of you, definitely will be back!

    Dinner by chef Marcus was out of this world. The concept behind it being a South African restaurant and having the chefs come and explain the dish, where it comes from, why they chose it makes the experience so special. Definitely worth returning to

    I recently had the extraordinary pleasure of dining at Urchin, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The 9-course tasting menu took me on a culinary journey through the Western Cape, with each dish evoking a sense of nostalgia and warmth reminiscent of home. Chef Marcus's masterful interpretation of local flavors and ingredients was exceptional, elevating each course to new heights. The mocktail pairing was equally impressive, adding an extra layer of delight to the evening. I was thoroughly impressed by the attention to detail and creativity that went into crafting each element of the meal. I wholeheartedly rate my experience at Urchin 10/10, and I look forward to returning soon to embark on many more culinary adventures. Highly recommended!

    Thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Urchin, really something special and got the opportunity to go on a Journey without standing up. Amazing service and attention from the chefs and the managers. Accommodative to dietaries, I’m allergic to shellfish, instead I had the most amazing King Oyster Mushroom and Paternoster sea salt accompanied with a lemon and garlic sauce.

    Yesterday I had the pleasure to dine at the Journey at Urchin Restaurant. We were warmly greet by the host team from the door till the designated Urchin table. Where the host gave us warm towels to start off. The host was so considerate and attentive that they offered us to use the lift up to the urchin floor. Where we received our welcome drinks. We got a quick briefing of how the chefs traveled in order to make this master piece menu. It was a very well thought out trip. We enjoyed the nine course meal. By the time desserts came I was so full. Chef Marcus and his team had really embraced the essence of being South African and brought a childhood for others to become a dining experience for those who never had the opportunity. Although they tell you the story the flavours in the food speaks for itself. Exceptionally exceptional
