We present Journey, a curated exploration of the Western Cape brought to life on a plate.

Located at Urchin Restaurant in Hyatt Regency Cape Town, this award-winning dining experience celebrates the region’s rich food culture, stories, and heritage. Recognised by the Restaurant Association of South Africa, Journey offers a refined take on Cape Town fine dining.

Led by Chef Marcus Gericke, our team travelled 1,881 kilometres across the Western Cape, from Kalk Bay and the Karoo to the Garden Route and Bo-Kaap, uncovering the flavours and traditions that define this extraordinary region.

The result is a menu that honours over 100 years of Western Cape food culture, reimagined with a contemporary approach.

Guests can choose between an 11-course tasting menu, a full culinary journey featuring signature dishes like our celebrated milk tart, or an à la carte menu including favourites such as the West Coast braai.

    If food could speak, Urchin would be giving standing ovation to itself. Excellent experience from the moment we walked in, the vibe, effortlessly classy. Trust, you will sit up straight but still feel at home. The staff, sharp and on point in explaining the African dishes. They understand the South African food history at the back of their minds. Very impressive an very friendly. Now, the FOOD, wow, every dish felt like it had a purpose in life just to impress us personally. Fresh, bold and beautiful plated. In one of the the dishes I had to pause mid-bite just to process what was happened in my mouth, a bit confused but the flavor towards the end was megical, explosive and amazing at the same time. The portion we more than generous for 9 course FINE Dining, the flavor? Properly balanced, rich and very memorable. Whoever is behind that kitchen clearly understands that food is not just eaten - it's experienced. Honestly Urchin exeded my expectations. 10/10. Definitely coming back. LOL... Might even bring enemies just to impress them 🤣

    Did was overpriced and mediocre at best. This restaurant has new ownership and I think is not what it once was.
