The pasta was absolutely amazing, 10/10 but the dessert was a serious let down . Tarnished the whole meal .

The service we received from Libertino was so unprofessional. We got to the place and ordered our food. After ordering our food we got told that we had to leave by 8pm because they double booked. Firstly how is that the customers problem. Then I waited for my drink and only after I had asked about it was I told that the reason my drink is taking long is that they DONT HAVE ENOUGH GLASSES. What kind of establishment that serves drinks doesn’t have glasses. Overall the whole evening was spoilt and soured.

My friend and I visited Bertino for her birthday dinner, and while the food and overall ambiance were lovely, the experience started off on a disappointing note. I made the reservation about 1–2 weeks in advance and specifically selected an indoor table, knowing it’s winter in Cape Town and often cold and rainy. In the lead-up to our booking, I received multiple confirmation emails and confirmed each time that we wanted to be seated indoors for 2 July at 7pm. When we arrived, there was no indoor table available for us and we were seated outside instead. When I raised this with the waiter, he wasn’t particularly helpful or accommodating, and the attitude we were met with made the situation more frustrating. Thankfully, Leon (who mentioned he was the head waiter) completely turned the situation around. He stepped in, apologized sincerely, arranged for us to be moved indoors, and even offered our first round of drinks on the house while we waited. That level of service made a huge difference and was genuinely appreciated. Once seated, the food was absolutely delicious, and we were also treated to a complimentary dessert, which was a lovely touch for the birthday celebration. That said, service overall could definitely improve. There were only three staff members working the floor on a busy night, and at times it was difficult to get assistance because the restaurant was so packed. One other odd detail: when we ordered wine for our second round, we were served in noticeably older, mismatched glasses while the rest of the restaurant seemed to have the proper wine glasses. It felt inconsistent and a bit strange. Overall, Bertino has a beautiful atmosphere and excellent food, and Leon’s professionalism really saved the evening. But there’s room for improvement in reservation management, staffing, and consistency in service.
