My experience at Libertino was simply awesome. They demand a deposit of R3000 for our booking then when I told them there will be no alcohol consumed. Then when our meals did cover the R3000 they demanded they refused to refund it. We proceeded against them because this conductor violates the Consumer Protection Act. Please careful going here with a large group they may rob you and require you to exercise your legal rights.

Libertino responded on Mon 24 Aug 26:
Hi Nadia. Thank your for your feedback. I would like to add some context for other readers: When you booked for 15 guests, you were advised in writing of our large group policy: a R250 non refundable minimum spend per person deposit, deducted from your final bill. Our cakeage policy was shared with you at the same time. We then lowered the deposit to R200 per person as a gesture of goodwill. That is roughly the cost of a main and a drink here, so it is not a barrier to a normal meal. It is a minimum spend, not an additional charge. Holding a large section of the restaurant for one party means turning other bookings away for the evening, and a minimum spend is what makes that viable. This is standard practice across Cape Town hospitality and it protects both sides. On the day, you were again reminded that outside cake and cupcakes are not permitted and reminded of our in house bakery service under our cakeage policy (which is also on our website). Your party ignored this and served and ate brought in cupcakes and cakes in the restaurant regardless. We chose not to make a scene about it at the time. Both policies were communicated clearly to you so guests can decide before committing.

Your policy was not provided nor was your non-refundable terms provided or agreed. Contractual terms must be agreed and communicated prior. We will proceed with legal action.

Our experience compare to last year was disappointing. The focaccia which is generally so brilliant seemed like it hadn’t gone immediately from oven. And the rest of food was not oatusual standard. And a usually full restaurant had only 2 other people. Not sure what happened.
