Situated in the picturesque old-world charm of Kalk Bay’s working harbour, Live Bait has an iconic location. Built on the breakwater, the restaurant has exquisite views overlooking False Bay and the mountains beyond on one side, and the colourful harbour on the other. With a wall of windows, it allows the outside in and creates a breath-taking backdrop to enjoy a meal.

From late July, the Humpback and Southern Right whales come into the bay to calf and are regularly visible to diners. In summer our sun deck allows diners to experience unforgettable outdoor seascapes.

All meals are simply prepared, with an emphasis on fresh flavours of seafood.

    The fish dishes were 5 star but the Avocado and cucumber roll was tasteless. One of the widows facing the harbour, where we were seated, has no blind (all the other windows do have them) and the sun was incredibly hot and uncomfortable

    What a great venue and staff. Friendly and good value. The setting is quite special particularly with a window seat. I gave five stars for food only because six was not an option!

    My second visit to Live Bait with my partner. The views and the ambiance definitely does it for me. Prawns had a different taste then the ones we had the first time, not as spicy as it was that time but it was still good. The waiter was also excellent on the day.
