Cradled in the folds of the peaceful Vrede en Lust wine estate in Franschhoek, the Lust Bistro & Bakery entices one’s surroundings with the tantalising aromas of freshly baked artisan bread – imaginative creations of Jean Pierre Smith, patron chef and baker extraordinaire whose lunchtime chalkboard presents a constantly intriguing invitation of discovery.

From breakfast to late lunch, there is something for everyone: salads crisp with dew-fresh seasonal garden produce, cakes just out the oven, cheese and charcuterie platters boasting South African specialities, mouthwatering chicken and beef dishes all exquisitely presented. The Lust Bistro & Bakery is definitely an experience you do not want to miss.

Booking is essential for Lust Bistro’s Sunday Buffet lunch where Jean Pierre takes the hearth oven through its paces with a selection of slow cooked roasts.

    Lucky looked after us for a Saturday brunch, and we were lucky indeed. Attentive service, great coffee and fresh juices. Would highly recommend!

    The menu on the board didnt have 2 of the dishes advertised. My rump steak was medium rare and was served up cold. The prices are like fine dining and not worth it. We will not be going back - such a pity it used to be good eating and atmosphere.

    We waited very long for our food and could not eat as a table. We took out clients for lunch. The one order was wrongly delivered. When paying the bill they already added 12% tip. We were not happy, if you know you made a mistake etc then you never take 12% you say sorry you can give what ever you think was worth wile For now we will first skip Lust Bistro and tri a new place somewhere else.

    We had a lovely Baby Shower for our colleague at Vrede & Lust Bistro on Friday 5 June 2026. We gave the food list ahead of time to every one;s order and needs and all were served on time and correct plated food as per our order. Service and reception of the guests are like a well oiled machine and they do cater to anyone big or small. Table and lay out and decorations are not a problem as they are helpfull and accomodating. Defnitely a jewel in the Boland winelands.

    Breakfast was amazing. Our waitress had the most beautiful smile. She is an absolute asset to the team and to top it all i was spoilt from the kitchen with a birthday mimosa. So special! Will be back soon!

    We had a great lunch at Lust Bistro and Bakery! The service was excellent, scenery beautiful, and food was delicious. We stopped midday of our day of wineries on the wine tram and enjoyed flatbreads and sandwiches. We especially loved the gluten free sandwiches available!
