    This wasn't my first visit to Madeiras and it certainly won't be my last. From the moment we arrived, the staff were welcoming and attentive. The food was beautifully presented, full of flavour and excellent value for money. The relaxed atmosphere and warm hospitality made it feel like a true home away from home. What stands out from other establishments, is that all staff acknowledge, engage and attend to you throughout the experience. Very well done Madeiras.

    First, the positive: The food was well-portioned and reasonably priced! We returned to Madeira Restaurant after a long time and noticed that nothing had changed significantly. We used to enjoy the prawns. This time, there were none, as they were sold out (that shouldn't really happen to the chef). The taste of the Trinchado wasn't "Portuguese" enough. It lacked the typical local spice. The sauce was a bit too bland, not to say boring. The meat quality was very good. The mashed potatoes also lacked "oomph." The starters were okay, but nothing special. For a restaurant of this category, a corkage fee of R100.00 per bottle is too high! After the meal, I asked for a Portuguese speciality as a digestif, and I mentioned "Aqua Dente," or a local brandy. Nothing like that was available. The manager who rushed over pointed out that while they serve Portuguese food, it isn't really a Portuguese Restaurant (odd!). They don't offer original Portuguese drinks. The service was not that good. The young lady was very nice, but a bit awkward and insecure.

Just to clarify, while our name has remained "Madeiras" since we purchased the business in 2019, we are a fusion-style bistro rather than a traditional Portuguese restaurant. Some of our dishes are inspired by Portuguese flavours, but our menu is not Portuguese, which is why we don’t carry certain drinks or specialities. We’ve also taken note of your comments on the Trinchado, mash and service and will share this with our team to improve. As for the waitress who served you, she is new to our team — confidence takes time, and we appreciate your patience as she grows into her role.     My friend and I went for the Monday evening steak special. Steak was delicious, soft and tender. Pepper and mushroom sauces are fantastic. Jalapeno poppers were delicious. Will definitely return for another evening special. Staff were friendly and great. Service was very good.
