Country cooking at its best. We want to make you feel at home with our beautiful stoep and veggie garden. Set in the middle of Stanford in 11 Queen Victoria Street, surrounded by Mulberry trees. Our heritage cottage breathes warmth and hospitality. Madre has been trading since 2005 and opened in 2018.

Everything is fresh and nothing out of a tin. Local fresh fish every day – filleted in our kitchen. We support only local, and most of our veggies and herbs are out of our garden. We make sure we serve the best, and we have built a fantastic reputation with the flavor of our food. Small black board menu and always seasonal with changes.

    Absolutely delicious lunch in a delightful garden. Only mark service down as got forgotten at the end of the meal - as so often happens. But waitresses were lovely too! Had salmon trout and cheese soufflé then fish (Kob I think?) and the lamb. All really really good. Go there!

    We had an outstanding lunch. We decided to share some small plates plus the fish main. Everything was absolutely delicious. The smoked trout ( that sauce) YUM. The cheese soufflé and the risotto incredible. Courgette dish lacked a bit of flavour. Fish - stunning. Will definitely be back. Our server (long dark hair) was delightful. Thank you.

    The food was generally not exceptional. We have eaten here previously and have been enthralled by the meals but this time they were having an off day. Having said that, the mosbolletjie, burrata and the bottle of 2019 Neil Bester wine were all exceptional. Our waitron Janet was a pleasure to deal with!

    We had a wonderful brunch. The food was excellent (Morne omelettes, granola, eggs Benedict, self curated breakfast too, coffees, teas) and our waiter was great fun too. The fact that even their tea was good, which is a rarity and usually amounts to a teabag in a cup (this was loose leaf tea in a cast iron teapot), was such a surprising treat.
