There’s a place, in close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, on the foothills of a mountain where nature reigns. Amongst undulating hills and valleys of decomposed shale, unspoilt nature stitches in vineyards and olives trees; roots dug deep into the soil, canopies arched towards the South African sun. Only 74 ha of the 200 ha estate is under vine and olive trees, the rest is given over to the mountains and the wetlands where eagles carve through the sky and owls roost in trees close to the cellar door.

    We were utterly disappointed with our experience at Morgenster Restaurant. I had always wanted to visit, but unfortunately we will never return. We went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday, but on the same day there was another large birthday function, and it felt like the restaurant’s attention was mostly focused on that event rather than the other guests. We both ordered pasta, which was below average, and the waitress hardly attended to our table. We also ordered desserts, but they took so long that we eventually decided to leave without eating them. In the end, we went for ice cream at Vergelegen instead, which turned out to be a much nicer environment and a far better way to end the evening. Overall, I’m very disappointed and regret choosing this restaurant for such a special occasion.

    We come often to Morgenster, but mainly for lunch in the daytime. This time it was dinner. You must do something about the lighting. It is far too harsh. Cutting out at least half the lamps would be a good atart.
