There’s a place, in close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, on the foothills of a mountain where nature reigns. Amongst undulating hills and valleys of decomposed shale, unspoilt nature stitches in vineyards and olives trees; roots dug deep into the soil, canopies arched towards the South African sun. Only 74 ha of the 200 ha estate is under vine and olive trees, the rest is given over to the mountains and the wetlands where eagles carve through the sky and owls roost in trees close to the cellar door.

Because of Mother’s Day the restaurant only offered a set menus. Usually we stay away from set menus especially on particular days like Valentine or Mother’s day. However, because of previous experiences, we decided to give it a go. Our reservations not to go for set menus on particular days however, was confirmed. The restaurant was completely booked, our table was not resdy upon arrival (even so we have bern 10 min late), the service was uncoordinated, 1 food option was not available and the quality was far from what normally is the norm at Morgenster. Neither the quality bir the quantity matched the price. Value for money was disproportionate. It appeared that the amount of bookings and guests was in a mismatch to staff, food and tableware. Our wine and water glasses came straight out if the dishwasher, still hot. Impossible to fill with wine or water. Waiting times for starter, mains and desert was unacceptable. We came at 13:45 and left by 17:15. However, the restaurant manager tried to be of assistance and adressed the shortcomings but there was not much she could do on the spot to rectify the situation in general. A bottle of wine was taken off the bill which was highly appreciated. Unfortunately it was disappointing but, we know that the Restaurant is usually well managed, always on top of things and the food and service is very good. No need for us not to visit again; just not on particular days.
