Along with formal training in Europe, Chef Nicolene Barrow worked at the world-famous Le Gavroche Restaurant in London before setting up Orangerie at Le Lude. Here classical French cuisine is presented with a contemporary twist; the purist, disciplined approach of the European masters combined with a hint of individual, modern creativity where what is on the plate is presented looking as good as it tastes.

A seasonal menu offers the finest, freshest ingredients found in the forests, meadows, mountains and seas of the Cape, resulting in a selection of dishes offered in an environment conducive to making permanent Franschhoek memories.

    I think the place is completely overrated. The food in the worst part of it and over priced and the arrogance of the place that they actually print on the menu that you not allowed to use your cell phone in the restaurant. Completely overrated and bad value for money.

    Of all the food and wine restaurants we visited in the West Cape over two weeks. The orangery was head and shoulders, a cut above all others in terms of quality service and value. Both the food and drink options were divine, and we actually felt blessed and privileged to be allowed to eat at such an establishment. We cannot recommend it more highly.

    Eaten here many times and it is consistently excellent. The onion soup is the best I have had all other dishes are excellent
