Along with formal training in Europe, Chef Nicolene Barrow worked at the world-famous Le Gavroche Restaurant in London before setting up Orangerie at Le Lude. Here classical French cuisine is presented with a contemporary twist; the purist, disciplined approach of the European masters combined with a hint of individual, modern creativity where what is on the plate is presented looking as good as it tastes.

A seasonal menu offers the finest, freshest ingredients found in the forests, meadows, mountains and seas of the Cape, resulting in a selection of dishes offered in an environment conducive to making permanent Franschhoek memories.

    The food is just to die for! We were lucky to be there now a second time within a short period of time but it was again so yummy! The owners are hands on and just passionate about what they are doing. Thank you again…

    Dining at the Orangerie is like a warm hug from mom or dad. You just know you’re going to love the food, the ambiance, and that the portions are generous. Last night was no exception. My absolute favourite will always be the Gruyère soufflé. I’ve tried others, but this one is hands down the best! Come early, order yourself a bottle of their Le Lude Brut, and wait patiently for the magic to unfold. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. And the mains? They didn’t disappoint either. They continued the successful trend set by our soufflés. I had the lamb T-bones, and my partner had the Beef Fillet with ossobuco croquette. To complete the night, we indulged in the Crêpes Suzette and Apple tart Frangipane. What truly made the experience unforgettable was the kindness and expertise of our server, Kim, and, of course, the culinary genius of chef Nicolene.

    This is the second time at the restaurant and every time they seat myself and my family at the back table close to the toilet door, so whiles eating, you experience everyone walking pass for the toilet. This is my honest complaint. I even called, asking for a good table trying to avoid the only table without a view or next to the windows. Other than that the food is always great and our waiter is the absolute best.
