Along with formal training in Europe, Chef Nicolene Barrow worked at the world-famous Le Gavroche Restaurant in London before setting up Orangerie at Le Lude. Here classical French cuisine is presented with a contemporary twist; the purist, disciplined approach of the European masters combined with a hint of individual, modern creativity where what is on the plate is presented looking as good as it tastes.

A seasonal menu offers the finest, freshest ingredients found in the forests, meadows, mountains and seas of the Cape, resulting in a selection of dishes offered in an environment conducive to making permanent Franschhoek memories.

    We are regulars and were always happy. This time it was the first time that we were not happy with the lamb quality, the chicken cordon bleu was quite dry and filled with just bland cheddar cheese, no gruyere and no emmentaler for the spiciness. All in all, we will be back to get a second bite at the cherry.

    We had a bad dining experience in Cape Town so it was such a joy to have such a wonderful dining experience at Le Lude. The service, the food and the ambiance were all perfect. We enjoyed it so much we booked to return the next night and had a wonderful repeat experience! Thank you

    The Orangerie never disappoints! The Soufflés are magnificent. As usual, we had them for starters AND dessert. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Our waitress remembered us from our last visit a year ago. We would definitely visit more often, if we lived in South Africa. Unfortunately we have to make do with one, sometimes two visits a year, depending on holidays. Looking forward to future visits and more delicious soufflés in the future!
