Palmetto is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, and background music that seemed to complement the overall aesthetic. The menu looks thoughtfully put together with a fair variety of options, and the wine list deserves particular mention — clearly curated with care, which many restaurants fail to get right. That said, the execution fell short. I ordered a steak, cooked to medium as requested, but it was served cold, as were the fries that came with it. This undermined the dish and suggested either a lapse in timing between kitchen and service or a lack of attention at the pass. To make matters worse, the waitress was unavailable when I tried to raise the issue, so it went unresolved. On the positive side, my friend enjoyed their fish dish, which suggests the kitchen is capable but inconsistent. The cappuccino I ordered after dinner was another disappointment. From presentation to aroma, it was clearly off — the froth was poorly made, the smell unpleasant, and after a single sip it was undrinkable. When I asked if it could be redone, I was told it was “possibly because of the machine,” with no alternative offered. At this level of dining, that kind of dismissal reflects poorly on service standards. Service overall was the weakest point. The waitress appeared flustered, struggled with basic English, and was difficult to engage with throughout the evening. Several times I had to rely on my friend to translate even simple requests. This disrupted the flow of the meal and made addressing issues unnecessarily complicated. In summary, Palmetto has the right foundations — a beautiful setting and a decent menu (at least on paper). But it lacks consistency in execution and attentiveness in service. With better staff training, sharper service standards, and closer coordination between kitchen and floor, it could deliver an experience that matches its potential.
