In the early 1940s, wine farmers in the Perdeberg region grew dissatisfied with the low prices they were getting for their premium quality grapes. Then an astute farmer named Jan Rossouw suggested they begin producing their own wine and Perdeberg Cellar was born! We pressed our first grapes manually in 1942 and while we have come a long way in terms of technology, we are still renowned for our hands-on approach!

    Perdeberg offers some excellent wines, and I really enjoyed what I tasted. The food at the restaurant was also decent and fairly priced, making it a good complement to the visit. The atmosphere is lovely too, with a beautiful outdoor seating area that’s perfect for a sunny day. Where the experience fell short was in the tasting itself. The presentation didn’t offer much detail, and when I asked follow-up questions — because I was genuinely interested in learning more about the wines and what made them stand out — the responses were brief, almost dismissive, which took away from the experience. In addition, the coordination among staff left a lot to be desired. Three different staff members attended to our table, but each gave us a different explanation about what we could or couldn’t order to taste, which created unnecessary confusion. Overall, while the wines themselves were excellent, the tasting experience felt underwhelming. With more knowledgeable and engaged staff, and clearer coordination in service, Perdeberg could offer a tasting that truly matches the quality of its wines and the beauty of its setting.
