Protégé is an exciting casual fine dining eatery under the guidance of previous Eat Out Chef of the Year, La Colombe’s Scot Kirton.

Scot is proud to be part of the process of recognising young talented chefs and giving them the opportunity to put themselves on the map. In keeping with this, the restaurant was aptly named Protégé.

The idea with Protégé is to keep it casual and comfortable, working with local suppliers to keep the menu as fresh and as seasonal as possible.

The restaurant space has been designed around the central show kitchen with al fresco dining planned at both ends of the restaurant.

Protégé is open for lunch from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm and for dinner from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm.

Highly recommended. One of the best experiences and food and there are many to contend with, thank you.

I wanted to like Protege but would not recommend it to anyone. We made the reservation for the regular lunch but showed up and were told we could only do the tasting, even though we had been able to make the regular booking online. We also chose to do the wine pairing, which was not worth it at all. It was R845 for less than two total glasses of wine - to be surrounded by such lovely wine estates at better prices, I would skip this entirely at protege. The first two courses (the bread and starter) were fantastic but the other courses deeply underwhelming - normal flavors and combinations prepared in unoriginal ways. There are many other great places to visit in the area, I’d skip protege next time. That said, the service was fantastic - except for the end of the meal when we were informed gratuity was included but then we were pressured into leaving a bigger tip by our server.

We loved our lunch at Protege. The food was beautifully presented and the flavours were exquisite. The chef had no problem taking our dairy and gluten intolerances into account. The food was fresh, very well prepared. The staff was excellent.
