We were a little disappointed with the quality of the food and the prices the professionalism of the service and the seating. Asara used to have this amazing Pizza place overlooking the dam but now the only place to come for dinner is a cellar with a rather unpleasent terrace seating and strong prices for small portions.

Highly disappointed. Booked my and my twin brother‘s birthday dinner the day before. Arranged with the chef to serve a set main menu for the whole family. We agreed on chateaubrian flamed at the table as special effect. Since the chef said that they don’t stock beef filet we agreed that I will buy it myself for him. I organized 2.2kg filet from the butcher in town. However the main was served to the table without the agreed flambé effect. The spoons for the sides came only after multiple request. The sauce bernabais has been forgotten and brought after the meal was almost over. As a nice special birthday surprise we have been presented the bill charging more than R600 per person for the main (filet steak, spinach/butternut, onion rings, french fries and two sauces). When I told the restaurant manager (Caroldine) that this amount doesn’t make sence, since I provided the filet) her final charge for the main was R530. We told her that we cannot accept such an amount for the sides of a main menu and that she must take that up with her management. As a benchmark I told her the price for a chateaubrian 300gr at Hussar Grill for R380. It took her two days to come back with the information that the complete main will be taken off from our total R8000 dining bill. Which we accepted. On the day of departure my brother signed and paid the total hotel invoice. We only noticed a day later that there still was the main billed for R530 each. When I phoned Caroldine she apologised and said she will arrange for the refund. Since then she constantly comes with excuses and until today nothing happened. I asked to talk to the GM. However she kept saying he is not in. Now - here is the point: it is not about the money since we spent more than R130.000,- !! during our stay. It is about ethics and accountability. Therefore: I wouldn’t recommend that restaurant at all.

Dear Mr Landmesser, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I would like to address a few points in your review to ensure the record is accurate. Firstly, the use of outside meat is not permitted as a standard policy at our restaurant. An exception was made in your case as a goodwill gesture following your request and prior discussion with our culinary team. Secondly, the original cost calculation for the main course reflected the full preparation, accompaniments, service, and staffing involved. Following your concerns, the charge was reduced substantially from the initial amount to R650 per person, and thereafter further reduced to R530 per person as a compromise. Regarding the final invoice, the understanding at the time was that the matter would be reviewed internally. No final confirmation of a refund was authorized. That said, we acknowledge that the situation could have been communicated more clearly, and for that we apologise. We regret that your experience did not meet expectations and that this matter detracted from what was intended to be a special occasion. Your feedback has been noted and discussed internally to prevent similar misunderstandings in future. We appreciate your patronage during your stay and wish you well going forward. Kind regards, Charl Schoeman General Manager
