Oh dear i was not going to review but you have asked for one. We arrived early evening no one in the place - dark & dingy. We did not find much that excited us on the limited menu so asked the waiter if the mussels were fresh (far from sea!!) - she assured that they were but when they arrived most had no flesh remaining and a couple closed. The mains and the desert were ok. First time for years we declined to pay for the starter. Presentation throughout was lacking . Wow this restaurant needs a complete makeover if it is going to be a good place to dine. We have been coming to SA annually for 25 years and this is by far our worst dining experience.

The location and ambiance are exceptional. The menu is creative and we appreciated the inclusion of some tasty vegan and vegetarian options. The starters (CHARRED BABY MARROW “BITES”, and AUBERGINE & WILD MUSHROOM) were both plated beautifully and were a great flavour combination. We were a bit disappointed though that our waiter’s menu knowledge was very limited. The mains arrived and the SORGHUM & WILD MUSHROOM RISOTTO was excellent. I was very disappointed however, with the CHARRED CAULIFLOWER STEAK. The green mango achar was delicious and a great contrast to the cauliflower, but the ratio was wrong with far too little achar to set off the very large head of cauliflower. There was also no evidence that the cauliflower had been anywhere near a grill, never mind been there long enough to get charred. It was lightly steamed, which for such a large piece of bland vegetable did very little to enhance it. The cassava chips were limp and chewy, also detracting from the dish. A lot of potential, but execution in the kitchen let us down.
