Had a fab time at Sauvage. The food was excellent and they even provided a cheeseboard as we didn't fancy anything sweet at the end of the meal. All the staff were delightful and couldn't do enough to help you.

A year ago we were here and it was great. The food, the service and the ambiance. But we were really disappointed. But when we entered the restaurant at 6.30 pm it was dark, the curtains were closed and we were told that people like it this way. But they did open the curtain at the table where we sat down. The springbok venison my husband had was good, but the kingklip I had was very dry. The service was good but the ambiance was not nice at all. So I think that it was the last time we have come here.

Sauvage at Le Franschhoek Hotel responded on Thu 18 Jun 26:
Thank you, Annemie, for returning to Sauvage and for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. I’m very sorry to hear that your experience did not match the standard you remembered from your previous visit. The ambiance clearly missed the mark for you, and your comments on the kingklip have been taken seriously and shared with the kitchen team for immediate review. I’m glad the service and the springbok were positives, but I fully understand your disappointment overall. If you would be open to it, I would appreciate the chance to welcome you back personally to taste our new winter Menu and hopefully and restore your confidence in us and our beautiful restaurant . I booked this restaurant for my wife’s birthday., and what a mistake When we arrived we were the only Two in the entire restaurant (which should have sounded some alarms) The place was dark and dingy presumably so you couldn’t see what you were eating. RIBEYE & BAOBAB BÉARNAISE Charred Ribeye, Roasted Gem Squash, & Pumpkin Seed Dukkah R395 Cold plates, overdone small portion of meat sat on a mound of tasteless mashed potatoes. Not sure what happened to the béarnaise think it got lost in the mound of potatoes SPRINGBOK LOIN Rooibos-Smoked Marrow Butter, Cured Fig Jus, & Sweet Potato–Miso Terrine R420 This could have been ok but for the small portion. We did give our feedback and were told that there is noting to be done. When I tried to speak with the chef he pretended to be on the phone and totally ignored us. So please do not go here
