Jurgen Schneider: 'After 50 years of cooking I feel I came to the point to know exactly what I want to bring to the peoples palate and to the table.

All the styles we as chefs got through, in all kitchens around the world (traditionelle cooking, nouvelle cuisine, molecular style, farm to table, local is lekker, and last but not least Nature Kitchen) and the influence of each style I was thinking about my personal style a lot.

Since 40 years I am a mad forager and food from nature is for me the most inspiring topic. Here at the Western Cape in the heart of the Floral Kingdom the varieties of plants which are growing right in front of our doorstep are amazing.

Dune Spinach, Wild Sage, Cancer-bush, Buchu, Geranium, Confetti Bush, Sea Weed, Bitter Bush…and lots more…

Dinner from Wednesday until Saturday, choose between:

    We are extremely lucky to have a restaurant of Schneider's calibre in little Gansbaai - where the most popular "eatery" is probably Wimpy or KFC. The "Gifts from the kitchen" feature of the menu (FAR exceeding a mere amuse-bouche) was so thoughtful and of course mouthwatering. The starters, main, dessert, "after dessert", sweets ... ALL surprising, inventive, elegant, exciting and UTTERLY delicious. The wine list is also perfect. I recommend Schneider's without reserve.

    Unfortunately, we did not like the food at all. We have never eaten as badly as we did here. It was catastrophic. This is our eighth time in South Africa, and so far we have only had positive experiences with restaurants. Everything has always been very delicious – except at Schneider’s Cape Floral Kitchen.
