    Our reservation was confirmed on 27 July, yet more than a week later, and only two days before we were due to attend, it was cancelled to accommodate an “exclusive event”. The proposed lunchtime alternative, offered at the eleventh hour, was impractical and we ultimately did not dine there at all. The issue was not simply the cancellation, but the striking lack of planning and regard for guests with confirmed reservations. A booking should be a commitment, not something displaced when a more convenient opportunity arises. For a venue of this standing, the handling was remarkably discourteous and fell well below expectation.
