We visited Tang after reading mixed reviews but went in optimistic and excited to try something different. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. We sat on the terrace for the view, but quickly noticed the dirty bench upholstery, weathered tables, and generally poorly maintained setting. It didn’t feel like the standard you’d expect from a restaurant at this price point. For starters we had the duck tacos and prawn dim sum. The flavours were decent but not memorable, and the portions were small for the price. The mains were the biggest letdown. The Korean fried chicken was essentially two half chicken breast pieces drowning in what tasted like a basic store bought sriracha-style tomato sauce, served with cold, unseasoned chips that seemed fried in old oil (R275). The teriyaki chicken was bland and flavourless, sitting in a watered-down broth with egg fried rice (R250). Initially we thought we might just have been unlucky, but nearby tables also complained about their wagyu steak being overcooked, stringy, and full of sinew. The only highlight was our waitress, who handled everything professionally. Unfortunately, the food and overall condition of the restaurant didn’t justify the premium prices. We wouldn’t recommend it and won’t be returning.
