    Fantastic experience at Tannin! Our server (Ruby) was very professional and looked after us well. The food was original and very tasty! The wine selection is immense and there are plenty of quality wines by the glass to choose from, if you don't want to go for a full bottle.

    We ate on the first floor and could barely hear ourselves due to poor acoustics . Service a little slow. Good wine recommendations from our waiter.

    We had dinner for two at Tannin in Cape Town last night. The restaurant was far from full. Downstairs in the bar there is a nice atmosphere with music and a lively buzz, which is quite pleasant. Upstairs, where we were seated on the first floor, it is much quieter. The interior is simple and tasteful, but the lighting is extremely poor. We could barely read the menu and had to ask for extra light. They did bring some, which we appreciated, but even then the lighting remained insufficient. As for the food, we each had a starter and a main course. For my starter I ordered the mussels. The flavour was good, but the mussels were undercooked. The coconut sauce also had a large shiny layer of oil floating on top, which didn’t look very appetising. For my main course I had the steak. The meat itself tasted good, but it was far too salty, with a heavy sprinkling of salt on top. The side dish called patatas bravas really had nothing to do with patatas bravas. They looked like reheated half potatoes, possibly warmed up several times, covered with large amounts of Parmesan and sitting in a thick, greasy sauce. My partner had the fish, which was served as a huge portion, almost an entire fish. Unfortunately it was also swimming in oil and fat.
