For over 20 years, our unmatchable steakhouse has been as much a part of SA culture as sunshine, red wine and red meat. You could say it is a landmark on the culinary landscape (and we're now in Cape Town and the Middle East).

But The Butcher Shop is also about family - and the laughter, memories and conversations shared with special people over great food at a top steakhouse.

Our family business, handed down over three generations, is famed for its quality produce, extensive menu, separate butchery & deli and 800 passionate staff globally.

In Johannesburg, we're able to seat up to 600 guests, plus 22 guests in our exclusive private dining room. In Cape Town, we can accommodate 250 guests, with the capacity for an additional 40 guests in our private dining room.

    I had a special evening planned. I wanted Japanese Kobe beef and to try some of their other imported meats. When we arrived, we were told by two watering staff that we would be able to order fine slices of the expensive meats. We ordered the meat and then told by management that they will not do it as I had ordered. There said they couldn’t cook it and would not cut the weight I wanted. They said they are unable to cook the 150 g slices that I wante perfectly. So said I didn’t mind and to please go ahead but the refused to serve the meat to me. The meat is priced by weight and no where does it state that’s there’s a minimum amount to purchase. Two waiters said our order is in keeping with what they have done in the past. And yet the manager refuse to cut us a steak to our order. This was a special evening specifically focused on that Kobe beef. So my special evening ended up being sub average.

    It felt like the waiter didn’t really want to have us there. He seemed to be rather uninterested and annoyed. Perhaps he had a bit of an off day.

    It’s a better all-round experience than 8 months ago. Chips are better -crispier and fluffier. Bearnaise sauce is very good and steak aged perfectly and cooked perfectly. Always excellent service and great ambience.. my favorite place to eat in Cape Town!!
