For over 20 years, our unmatchable steakhouse has been as much a part of SA culture as sunshine, red wine and red meat. You could say it is a landmark on the culinary landscape (and we're now in Cape Town and the Middle East).

But The Butcher Shop is also about family - and the laughter, memories and conversations shared with special people over great food at a top steakhouse.

Our family business, handed down over three generations, is famed for its quality produce, extensive menu, separate butchery & deli and 800 passionate staff globally.

In Johannesburg, we're able to seat up to 600 guests, plus 22 guests in our exclusive private dining room. In Cape Town, we can accommodate 250 guests, with the capacity for an additional 40 guests in our private dining room.

    Unpretentious dining where the food shines, as it should. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked, but the chips were everyone’s favourite — certainly worth returning for on its own! Service was quick, efficient and friendly. Our first time at this restaurant, but there’s no doubt that we’ll be back.

    Abraham is a fantastic waiter, patient and helpful, he took time helping choosing the steaks, which were cooked with perfection. We had a wonderful evening!

    Great experience, great atmosphere. Simba was very engaging, gave great advice and suggestions on meals, and was very lively and energetic. Would definitely recommend and will be back. I would highly recommend making a reservation as the restaurant becomes extremely busy around 6:30pm.

    Delicious and very expensive. Meat at market price makes it hard to understand how much your steak will cost you. And though friendly, the service is slightly supercilious. But good vibes, great food. I will return.
