I was very excited to experience the Peruvian menu at The Library Food Club. The restaurant venue in Birdhaven, Johannesburg, is very atmospheric. The service was excellent and we were well attended to. The menu represents a range of popular Peruvian dishes (with a few other Latin American items added in). At our table we tried the tacos, salmon ceviche, and squid as starters, and all went down well with cocktails and (especially the pisco sours) and mocktails. For mains we had the pork tamale, kingklip, shrimp stew, and lomo saltado. The food brought back happy memories of dining adventures in Lima and Cusco and we were all satisfied with our choices. I found the lomo saltado on the salty side. In Peru the rich savoury sauce was balanced by serving the dish with rice - making it a good example of the Asian influences in Peruvian chifa cuisine. The wine selection was a bit disappointing for the oenophiles in our group. We indulged by sampling a few desserts which brought a lovely evening to an end. Try The Library Food Club as soon as you can.

Dear Sharon Thank you for dining at the restaurant, sorry to hear that the Lomo Saltado was on the salty side and the wine list didn’t meet the expectations of the oenophiles. However we are very grateful that we evoked happy memories for you and left you well satisfied. Best regards, The Library Food Club

This restaurant is situated in a cool, intimate, and stylish environment. The art, antics, and classical music truly brought the place together. The service was excellent as we had a polite waiter who helped with explaining the menu and choosing a good meal. The manager was also kind enough to offer us a complimentary shot. Certain meals lacked some spices however I assume it’s how Peruvian dishes are prepared. Nonetheless there were some delicious dishes we had. This place was worth our coins and the experience was memorable.
