From the moment we walked in we were welcomed and attended to with care and professionalism When we were seated, the owner / manager came over, welcomed us again, explained thier journey, cracked some jokes and made us feel so welcome and relaxed, the place is small and intimate, the food is amazing, highly recomend the tacos and prawn tostada, their signature pisco drink is delicious. The Vibe and the Ambience is Exemplary, warm , inviting and relaxed. It was my husbands birthday, which they acknowledged with a digestif (tequilla) after dinner, the desserts were pretty good also altho the apple one was abit dry. we took recomendations from from the manager and had the lomo saltado, it was so delicious i was so sad that i couldnt eat more of if because we had stuffed ourselves on the delicious tacos before hand. the prices are great, definitely value for money and the whole "speak easy" theme is so cute and unique. we loved it and will definitely be back.

This place has so much potential, maybe it was the day we went but the service was mild, the food wasn't mind blowing, the beef dishes were really tasty though. I really wanted this place to be a 5/5.

The Library Food Club responded on Tue 14 Jul 26:
Hi Hakim Thank you for coming in for the honest feedback. We’re glad our beef dishes were a hit. Sorry the service felt a bit mild and the rest of the menu didn’t quite blow you away. We take all feedback seriously and will use it to improve. Hope you’ll give us another chance soon Regards, The Library Food Club

First time at The Library food club. It is a beautiful venue with great ambience and we were there for a show: The spirit of the Andres. The show was good but we missed parts of it as we sat on the far end and the bar was in the way. The show and food were a package deal, R1200. This is a lot of money for this type of thing, however, the restaurant did not skimp on offerings and food..it was a planned 6 course meal with cocktails but it felt more like a 9 course meal. In terms of value for money, it more than hit its mark, however, a lot of the food just wasn't very good. There were 3 stand outs: The Lomo Saltado, Seco de Pollo and the Leche Asada, all excellent but we had to sit though comical and misaligned pre-dishes that were unpalatable or inedible. The nacho chips were both crispy and chewy at the same time, (but the salsa criolla and.guac was fantastic,) the tacos were mealy and missed flavor, the chicken skewers were bland (but the sweet potato puree was amazing), the mushroom dumplings had no mushrooms at all, the ceviche was sweet fish instead of cured and tart (this is Peru's national dish so this needed to be good.. it wasnt..) the pisco sour was way too eggy and the ayahuasca cocktail a mismatch on ingredients and not to everyones tastes.. Nothing truly felt peruvian and instead felt horribly pedestrian or like poorly done mexican food. Where were all the potatoes and amazing fusion flavors Peru is know for? Its a mystery. Service was great, they have really good staff but they were way too understaffed for the amount of people so there were issues but this is easily overlooked due to the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. I believe that for these events, they could limit the menu more and focus on what they do well, charge less and will do an incredible job. We had a good day out overall but not sure if I would rush back for it again.

The Library Food Club responded on Thu 09 Jul 26:
Hi Franco, Thank you so much for this — genuinely, it's rare to get feedback this thoughtful and honest, and I'm really glad you took the time to write it all out. First off, I'm sorry the bar blocked your view during parts of the show. You came for the evening and missed pieces of it, and that's on us to fix for next time — seating around that bar needs a rethink. Now, the food. The ceviche landing sweet instead of cured and tart really stings to hear, because you're so right — it's Peru's heart and soul, and if we didn't nail that, we didn't do the country justice. Same with the mushroom dumplings missing their mushrooms and some of the other early plates falling flat. That's not who we want to be. But it means a lot that the Lomo Saltado, Seco de Pollo and Leche Asada hit home for you — that's the kitchen at its best, and it tells me exactly where our focus needs to go. Honestly, your suggestion about tightening the menu is the kind of thing I needed to hear. Doing fewer dishes brilliantly, at a fairer price, is so much better than stretching for nine courses when a few aren't ready yet. That's shaping how I think about the next one. And thank you for being so kind about the staff despite being understaffed — they're a great team, and it means a lot that you saw that even on a tough night. I'd really love the chance to have you back and show you what this can actually be when we get it right. Reach out anytime — 0823055643 Thank you again, Franco. Anthony

It is a lovely setting, with great vibes. The food was interesting and tasted beautiful. My only comment is that there seemed to be pickled red onions on every dish we had ordered and that became a bit much for us.

The Library Food Club responded on Thu 09 Jul 26:
Dear Elizabeth Thank you for your honest review about the red onion garnish, we will share it with our kitchen team. We look forward to seeing you again. Regards, The Library Food Club

Service was incredibly bad. Waitress was rude and not attentive. Food was not authentic Peruvian. Lackluster. Entertainment was awkward and also not Peruvian. Overall not impressive and would not recommend.

The Library Food Club responded on Thu 09 Jul 26:
Dear Linda We’re sorry the food, service and entertainment didn’t meet the standard you expected. That’s not the experience we want to give our guests. We’d love to invite you back to give us another try. Regards, The Library Food Club
